Is your kids school as stupid as mine?

Answered 5 years ago

They always book excursions and camp in the middle of winter. Probably because it’s cheaper, but it’s stupid. My daughters class has to walk half an hour to the train for an excursion through the city parks. It is forecast to be raining. We were told to buy a poncho. I’ve just been to two major shopping centres and not one shop sells kids raincoats.

Really wanted a raincoat and not a poncho because my girl needs hers arms out to write notes.

Doubt she would be expected to write notes in the rain. The paper will be ruined. Get her a poncho for the walk to the station.

Not paper....iPads. And yes they had to use them in the rain, I did say the school was stupid.

Kmart online is showing ladies plain black ones for $15, depending on how old your child is they might be able to get away with this (my daughter is 10 and def could) a bit long might be good, (longer and drier) otherwise there’s spotted kids one for $17.

And also, yes my kids school is stupid too, they wait for the cold weather to do swimming when the kids are on the edge of getting sick, half the kids are absent by the time it’s over😒😒😒
Maybe that’s their plan🤣🤣

It was too late notice to order on line. I saw the adult ones but my kid is a tiny 11 year old so was way too big. Thanks.

more likely because other schools booked in the warmer months and the middle of winter was the only time your school could get.

No shops sell kids raincoats in the middle of winter ? Really?

Seriously, no raincoats. I even looked in places like Ally and Valley Girl, even the Reject Shop. I got one at Kmart last year but none in the two Kmart stores I went to today. Our school is a tight arse school. Even swim lessons are booked in winter. And school photos too so my girls hair is always a mess!

Why would your kids hair be a mess in winter?
We live in qld and my kids have curly hair lol. I’d love winter photos

It's the middle of winter so if Kmart is temporarily sold out I'm sure they'll get more in soon. However if you don't want to wait for that, try eBay. Postage within Australia takes a week or so but they're very cheap and heaps of variety.

Yes, our kids high school that they have been attending since last year sent a note home in term 1 saying theres a $3500 camp in June so come along to a meeting to give fundraising ideas to bring costs down. Our kids are not going on that camp. Its only a small school and the camp is every second year for the senior years, I'm a bit gobsmacked that they don't fundraise for it in the off year and look for grants to help cover it. We have 3 eligible kids that could go thats $10500. Crazy.

Where the fuck is their camp to? Disneyland? You’d be better off spending that money on a family vacation for a week.

Its in Canberra and we are in WA so thats buses, flights, accommodation, snow gear hire and entry fees and all that stuff. It sounds like a great camp but it needs to have a full years worth of fundraising to bring the costs down not one term.

I’m in W A and my nieces went on a camp to Canberra. They go to private school. I could not afford that for my kids either. My public school starts fundraising in the middle of term one for a term 3 camp. I think that’s too late to start. I’ve also asked why they don’t start fundraising in year 5 but the principal never agrees.

I’m in WA as well. My girl will go to Canberra but our cost is 1400! Not sure where that amount comes from. It also includes everything!

They may have gotten grants that brought the overall costs down and then parents are left with the difference. That's why I don't understand why this school doesn't do that.
