I grew up in a family that didn't celebrate christmas for religious reasons, but I celebrate it now.

I never really felt like I was missing out on anything and don't feel bitter about it. It was fine, it seemed normal. But I think I enjoy christmas now partly *because* I didn't get to do it as a kid so it all seems quite fun and exciting! We decorate our house and put up a tree and play xmas music and have christmassy food and watch christmas movies and get quite into it. Although not in a religious way.

My in laws are Christians /free reform church.
They do not celebrate Christmas like everyone else.
No presents, no father xmas, no ridiculous quantity of food. Even when the children were little there was no tree and no presents.
It's about Jesus birthday and they attend two church services that day.
So the Christmas holiday that I celebrate with presents and food is a cultural one, nothing to do with religion.

My mum is Christian and celebrates Xmas but not for religious reasons but cultural. Because Jesus’ birthday is in September. The date was moved because his birthday (ie Christmas) was a joyous celebration and people needed cheering up in winter

As atheists we celebrate Christmas as a cultural celebration rather than a religious one.

Us too! My daughter used to have a friend who didn't celebrate christmas, easter or even birthdays due to their religion. It was a shame, as she wasn't even allowed to give her friend a lolly or anything on her birthday, and the friend would never come to her birthday parties. Just different families and beliefs I guess. They have moved away now sadly.
