Dying and leaving my austic son without anyone to care for him of cause I have family that would take him but I know deep down that they would struggle to cope with his special needs on a daily basis

Oh my... this is me exactly ! Same hun. Mine is more attached to my husband more than anyone I’ve ever seen.. it’s beautiful but scares me and makes me fear something happening to my husband.

It is a normal response if one did not question their actions in a situation and didn't have any emotional effect then that would be abnormal
