Would you support a community clean up program that supports your junior sports team all year round?

Answered 3 years ago

Hi everyone, I'm a SAHD and SAHG, I'm working on a program with Channel 9, Waratahs, Football Australia and schools and universities. We've been asked to turn around the negative impact of COVID on kids sport and their clubs and we have several ideas. These programs are designed to stimulate positive community activity, help kids get more from their sporting experience and learn from positive role models. This will also take a load off parents.

By partnering with local clubs, we will help with local jobs that are a community priority. Things like clean ups, tree planting, pruning, cleaning ovals, parks and shared areas. These will be undertaken with paid local tradies, club seniors and willing parents. We will bring along famous Australian sports stars several times a year to run the BBQ and tell stories.

Would you be interested in paying $1 per day to have your kids participate? It will cost $2 to lodge a request for job. All proceeds, after paying the tradie, are invested in your club. If there is enough interest in your community, we will hire older kids in paid roles to oversee future projects.

We have several interested sponsors and they are interested in feedback from SAHM. One of them sells a lot of wine.

This is such a sensational concept which will help so many people, families and clubs. I have 2 boys and I would be happy to get involved and encourage others to do the same. It is especially important for youth to learn other life skills which is a great need in our society today. Go for it, I look forward to the progress of this positive project!

Wins all round here. Happier kids as they’re off their screens, being active and contributing to something bigger than themselves. Happier and cleaner community which will hopefully get people back out there. Helping sporting clubs recover from the pandemic damage. Love it!

Nice one! I like it. Got all the right angles - activekids, economic recovery, local business. Think you'll get some great support for this.

This is such a great idea to help reduce the aftermath of the pandemic which has had such a huge impact on children and families, sport being one of the main sacrifices we’ve had to make. I think giving older kids the role of helping run the program will be beneficial to both the younger kids and giving them a positive role model and the older kids providing them with responsibility and job opportunity in such a fun area of work. Fantastic idea!

Amazing initiative, love it. What a great idea to get kids, and parents too, involved in their community, giving back and getting out and about. It hasn't only been covid-19 that's kept us all indoors away from the world, it's the sedentary lifestyle we now lead, heads stuck in devices, what a great idea to develop socially and get those feel good vibes going by doing something that everyone will benefit from. Great start Ben x

I love the idea of getting older kids involved and giving them responsibility to own the project - I hope this gets enough momentum to make it happen. It’s a wonderful initiative to rally for your local community and to start bringing children and parents out of their homes after a very long 12 months of being stuck at home. Plus, anything with wine is a winner!

I love the idea of clubs working with kids to do things in the Community. Sport is an awesome tool to help our kids grow into good people (taking instruction, getting taught how to lose graciously, teamwork etc). I like that this idea involves much more learning than this - community work, and hands on stuff, that will actually teach our kids skills for life, as well as how to interact positively in the workforce and other settings.
Ps. I'd pay a dollar a day for my kids to be involved in this kind of holistic learning!!

This looks like an amazing program with many benefits. A win for the community, local trades, the club and the individual members. What a great way for young people to learn work ethic, skills and a sense of community. A great opportunity for young people to have community connections and role models. - Tash (a mum of four, club member and teacher)

This is a great suggestion. Transport to kids programs can often be an issue, especially when you have 2 or more athletes, and one person doing the majority of the ferrying. We have a friend in the auto industry, this request is definitely on the list.

This is a great idea. What the community really need is some kind of transport service that can take kids to after school sports and take them back to after school care or remain at the club's with the kids once training is finished if required. Things like that would allow a lot more kids to do sporting activities. I know that is a long now to draw but it is these kinds of initiative that create jobs for the provider organisations and opportunities for our talented kids.
