Croup

Answered 4 years ago

My daughter (2.5 yo) was up all night with a barking cough and fever. I believe it’s croup, however taking her to see a doctor this afternoon. Is there anything that you can recommend doing to help ease her?? I have given her nurofen a couple of times to help keep her comfortable. Thanks!

She is a lot better now, still has a really chesty cough though. I took her to the doctor on Monday, he checked her over and did absolutely nothing else. No medication or anything even though she’s been miserable all week!

They’ll probably give him a single dose of steroids (rediped or redipred, can’t remember) and that simply makes most of the barking cough go away. Then you just wait a couple of days

Oh the vaporisers are just awesome - when my girls were young I'd have two on in their bedroom and it made a huge difference.

My son used to get croup so bad we would spend days at the hospital with a respiratory mask on. It was gut wrenching to see him so small and there was nothing I could do. We ended up using a vics vaporizer in his bedroom and put vicks on his chest, back and bottom of his feet every night. We did this for about 4 years and thankfully he has since grown out of it.
Best of luck mumma x
