Why are hairdressers still allowed to operate? I don't get it!

Answered 2 years ago

Kudos to those hairdresser companies that are closing on their own accord, Just Cuts, Tony Guy etc. Surely nobody really cares about their hair over getting sick or others sick.

  • Keep them open

    17%
  • Shut them down

I have awful frizzy greying hair.....I straighten it to control the frizz and just pull it back in a bun. My family don’t care if I have greys and no one else is going to be seeing me. I don’t want to go to a hairdresser who has been seeing countless people before me. Who knows who’s got this awful virus.

Don’t see any sarcastic advice here. Tying hair back is a good idea. Doing your hair yourself is a great suggestion as there are lots of videos on line. I think you just read them sarcastically.

I'd say tie it back too but the 'it's not hard' thing is a little smartassy

Does somebody have to specify sanitising when they say cleaning?

All the hairdressers are shut in my area. That's 40 more people out of work, and competing with me to get unemployment registered, as I have been stood down from my job. I can't go anywhere or do anything because I have no income. I was going to volunteer to drive around with meals on wheels, but now I can't afford the petrol to get to their headquarters. Personally, I can't see how that is helping reduce risk of coronavirus, but hey, I have to do something to help.

I actually have a solid theory on this.
Where I live, lots of people are still at work. Because they're tradies in essential services.
My theory is that the government wants to keep as many tradespeople in work as long as they can to help drive up the national economy. My husband works in the mining industry. He has no concerns about his workplace shutting down because without the royalties from the mines, the economy takes a huge hit. But all the office staff have been stood down. Or they're working from home. But the "boys" (most of his crew are men) are still on site.
Hairdressers are trade qualified. They have a "skill" that will help prop up local economies.
Think of it like a snowball effect.
If Tom goes to his barber (who we'll call Jerry) and spends $60 on a haircut and a beard trim, Jerry will then knock off work, maybe take his $40 profit, and go spend it at the local Chinese takeaway (who we'll call Erica). Erica may then take the $25 profit from HER till, and spend it at the local green grocers. So far that's 3 businesses kept open because some asshole decided to splurge on a beard trim and a haircut. 3 seperate families can now afford to eat at night because of Tom.
This is just an example. A skill - local economy -overall national economy - good times.

Your theory is correct. They actually explained that on the news.

The media and politicians have to look good on camera so they’re keeping them open for their own selfish reasons. That’s my theory anyway!
