I don't use it, waste of money. My hubby said the same it ruins the machines. The older ladies tell you use white vinegar. #teamnofabricsoftener

My ex MIL told me to use white vinegar and I've used it now for about 4 yrs. I haven't noticed a difference between that and using actual fabric softener

Don't your clothes stink of vinegar? (Genuine non-bitchy question)

^ I used to use vinegar in cleaning solutions because people kept telling me that the smell wouldn’t linger. Well, apparently I have a stronger sense of smell than most people because I could always smell the vinegar for ages afterwards!

I don't use it because it's not necessary lol but I heard it reduces any flame retardant properties the clothing has. Though clothes are so crap these days they'd probably go up in flames in an instant anyway

Fabric softener has never been in my washing machine and never will. I use apple cider vinegar with oils like eucalyptus lavender or tea tree oil. Smells better then that chemical smelling crap that gives me headaches.

Oil into your machine that spreads onto your clothes ? That must be worse for the clothes and washing machine than fabric softener

Not a hippy thanks. And the oils are fine. To start with I'm only putting a few drops in and second heaps of people put oils in their wash cycle, what's the difference. It doesn't stain the clothes it actually helps wash them. Have you never heard of eucalyptus oil to remove stains? Or tea tree oil to kill germs? And both are great to kill dust mites. And lavender is used for sheets for a calming effect.

No can’t say I have heard of eucalyptus oil to remove stains in clothes. Have never heard of washing clothes with oils at all to be honest.

Google eucalyptus oils on stains. It's one of the oldest and best stain removers. It's also used to get sticky residue off just about anything. Just a warning don't use eucalyptus oil in the wash for any kids clothing that has a picture stuck to it.

Full of chemical crap and you’re breathing it right in and absorbing it through your skin 🤢 it’s totally shit for your machine, go and pretend to buy a new machine and you’ll find out. We shopped around 4-5 big stores and every single one said never use it.

We had a guy come to fix our washing machine and he said to never use fabric softeners. We were getting grey gunk over our clothes. We stopped using it and our machine lasted for years after. When we went looking for a new one recently all the sales assistants said not to use it either.

Why do they sell fabric softeners?

And why do washing machines come with instructions on how to use/where to put fabric softener?

 To make money
You are special

 😂😂😂😂

Hahaha yes I am special, thank you for noticing. If it is so true that fabric softeners destroy washing machines - which come with instructions on how to use them as well as special compartments for using fabric softener - how come nobody has sued over it? Sounds like it would be a slam dunk (having said that, I use fabric softener all the time and my machine is still going strong after 10 years)

I don't use it because my mum never did LOL, never thought about it!

My mum never used it but as soon as I moved out I decided to try it. Come to think of it, I don’t really do any household chores the same way my mother does - she usually asks ME for advice on that stuff these days!

I use white vinegar. It works a treat

Yuck! What do your clothes come out smelling of vinegar?! 🤢

 No idiot

I use it every load.
My towels and clothes are soft.
I don’t overload my washing machine with it.
My hubby thinks his undies feel nice on his arse.
See we can all write like you.

 Towels no no
Read the instructions on towels
How come your towels are soft

Towels are soft because I only use a quarter of the amount it says for normal loads.
It’s just for the smell
Can’t think of a third line

Don't use it every wash and make sure you do a hot empty load to clean it out.

Why do you use conditioner in your hair? It's exactly the same principle. Makes it soft & makes it smell nice.
I've been using the same washing machine, with fabric softener every wash, for nearly 12 years now. Never needed a fix or even a service. So kinda skeptical of your claim that softner somehow breaks machines??

 100% agree

Would you keep using it if someone told it could give you cancer?
^. That would depend on the someone wouldn’t it.
Hahaha yep sure would. Because it doesn't give you cancer.
No it isn't. Hair has natural oils, clothes dont
helpful (0)
So what that means is.... Clothes need conditioner even more than hair?

I get hand me down clothes from my cousin. My kids refuse to wear the clothes coz they stink of fabric softener. Even after I’ve washed them several times. Why do you need your clothes to smell??

^ agreed. Anyway fabric softener smells nice and it doesn’t hold its smell after several washes without fabric softener so your kids are probably just using any excuse they can to get out of wearing your cousins hand me downs.

You can use sodium percarbonate it gets it out.
