Anyone about to ask for a rent reduction based on the availability of property and housing slump? We haven’t been bothered to move, but could- looking in to it.

No but my tenants did. I think its at least worth asking.

Can I ask how they asked? Thank you

She's not going to tell you. It's not in her best interest. You'll probably spend the information around to your renting friends.

Ask!
I work in property management and have 2 rentals myself, if tenants ask I am happy to negotiate when their lease is up. It will probably be bugger all but hopefully they stay as if I have to find new tenants I will not get what they are paying now.

Thanks so much for the boost. I just wonder what the best way to ask is- I don’t want to offend in any way, but I do think I am paying more than I should.. do you have any lines you’d recommend? Also if I approach the agency to they tell the owner- or do they try to negotiate first? I have read differing things.

Also how would you feel if I said “we are looking into moving, would owners consider lowing the rent?”

I would look at similar properties in your area, I work out what is fair then ask the property manager to talk to the owner about negotiating a reduction. If you are good tenants they should at least meet you half way. Is your lease up for renewal soon? That's a good time to ask, I probably wouldn't mention moving.
