My local doctor is thinks my husband is abusing me.

Answered 5 years ago

I live in a small town. It's hard to go to another doctor. My doctor is convinced my husband is abusing me. He constantly asks me. He almost had me in tears at one point with his questioning. I've asked other people in town and they say he doesn't ask them at all. MY HUSBAND HAS NEVER TOUCHED ME IN AN ABUSIVE WAY! It's now to a point I'm to scared to take myself or my kids in if we have hurt ourselves. Can a doctor put a complaint in and my kids be taken away from us if they have been hurt purely by accident but he thinks it was my husband?

How did you get to this conclusion? Just curious to know.

Doctors don't just jump to those conclusions. You should think hard about what you've said or displayed.

I agree. He must see something. He wouldn't just target you

I have been very clear from the start that he has never harmed me in any way.

Maybe he thinks it's emotional or financial? Be very firm and clear.

And just ask the Dr what makes him think this. If you have anxiety, you may be fidgety and nervous looking. If he is noticing bruises on your arms, you may be lacking a vitamin or supplement. If you are having a lot of falls, you may be suffering vertigo. If your Dr has already decided what he thinks it is from, he will not be treating the correct problem. Just ask him and get your medical care back on track.

He has obviously come to this conclusion by somethings said or seen. Your behaviour probably #1.

I believe the OP. I think you should report it or something. Good luck x

If your doctor has any suspicions then he should be reporting you due to mandatory reporting laws. But, that will only trigger an investigation by relevant authorities. If there really is no abuse happening then you have nothing to worry about, besides the inconvenience of the whole matter and losing your GP.
I’ve friends who actually work in child protection and they don’t just take your kids off you as a first step. The preference is to always work with families to support them and keep kids with they’re parents.

If he doesn’t ask other people, only you, then you are not shutting him down convincingly. He must really believe there is something happening that you want to tell him about. Ask him “why do you keep asking? Why don’t you believe me?” He might feel obliged to keep asking because you are not being clear or forthcoming about your injuries or your childrens. It sounds like misplaced “due diligence” that is unnecessary to be upset about. What does your husband think? Does he see the same Dr?

My husband laughed to start with then the next day he felt a bit depressed about it really. He is very much against anyone hitting women. If anyone abuses a woman freind or family, he would be the first there getting the lady out of the house and protecting her at any cost.
And trying to get my husband to a doctor is impossible. He didn't even want to go to the doctor when he had a bad 'tummy ache' and went to work instead. I dragged him to the hospital the next day, he had appendicitis....

Yes if he things you or especially the children are in danger the doctor can report it to the appropriate services. Even your neighbour could do that

I'd be putting a complaint in about the doctor.

Actually this is perfect, next time he goes to ask tell him : I’m going to make a complaint if you keep asking me or insinuating that my husband is abusing me. I have told you repeatedly this is not the case and you are making uncomfortable each time you ask.
