My daughter is into extreme parkour...

Answered 4 years ago

I don’t know what I’m doing writing on here... I’m scared sick.
I don’t know how to make it short, from the time my daughter was 7 months old and climbed out of her cot, walked at 8.5 months... she’s been a climber. I say that because she’s always had a freakish ability to climb. And always been just drawn to it.
She’s been a gymnast ( more a flipper) and been loving a silks class she does.
She didn’t take to the rock climbing like I thought and got bored after a few months.
Lately she’s been getting into trouble for climbing cranes and buildings. The posts go on instagram.
She’s never been allowed an iPad or phone and I had a rule that if she wants a phone she has to be able to afford it. Which she now can.
She’s 16... a GREAT kid. Good friends, has her own little businesses she has started and is working to gain more experience ...
I don’t want to stop her as this is what she loves but one slip and she could kill herself.
I did stupid shit, climbed a few cranes too, sat on some cliffs and building edges but never did jumping and climbing buildings ect.
I torn between letting her be her and begging her to back off.
Iv already lost a son and I can’t tell if that’s clouding my vision.
I don’t know why I’m posting on here.
I’m so scared for her.
Where do I let go or stuff in the reigns.
She’s 16, I don’t even think I should be this is where you start to let go right?

Sometimes all you can do is give gentle advice, and hope they make the right decision, then scream in frustration when everything goes to shit and they can't believe it happened. My son at 17 wouldn't listen to reason, made stupid decisions, then carried on like a pork chop when he had to completely change his life plans.

I'm sure there is a recreation centre or something where she could do these things in a controlled environment, making it safer. You could help her look. Love to you and the family 💙

Parkour is great, you have to be fit, so this is a positive that she is into fitness. There are plenty of outdoor place and indoor training which is safe (as not high buildings, but still can injure like with any sport). Maybe take her to the indoor ninja warrior places. and start watching it on tv with her, discussing things about it, so you get involved and you both can chat freely about her training. good luck

She can come and talk to my BiL who is a paraplegic after jetty jumping. It’s ruined his, and his parents lives. Sent them almost bankrupt with medical bills.

Is there somewhere she can go & train for her love of extreme parkour?
Would she be interested in ninja training?

Hugs. I think I would try to talk to her like an adult, talk to her about how she could die, or end up a quadriplegic, and what life would be like, what she will miss out on. Let her know its her life and her decision, then leave it up to her.

Shit hun, I I think if you ban her, she'll do it on the sly as she has such a passion for it. Maybe you can have a mature conversation with her and set some boundaries at the very least. Sorry about your son 💙

I would need Valium. Lots of Valium. Look on the bright side, she’s not getting highs from meth
