How do you stop thinking?

Answered 4 years ago

How do you stop thinking and wanting someone? Been single for 10 years. Two years ago I met a nice man. First man I have trusted since my marriage split. We have a great friendship, and yes I would like more from him, though he doesnt know that. We were having sex spasmodically, but I have put a stop to that 3 months ago. And also cut back on seeing and chatting with him. He just wants friends, with benefits. But there is no benefits now as I am trying to be strong. I lie awake for hours at night thinking about him. Just makes me want him more. How do I stop thinking about him and wanting him more than a friend?

Depends how much you value the friendship?
Tell him, risk losing friendship.
Or cut him out of life like you're doing, ending friendship.
Both seem to end the friendship.
As for the stop thinking part. That's the hard bit!
I personally needed diazepam to get thru a hard breakup once where i couldn't sleep or id wake up with chest pain/anxiety cos i keep going thru things over and over and over in my head.
Sometimes (years later) i still feel sick to my stomach going over those last few days of the relationship/the breakup/the aftermath etc and can't sleep.
Good luck to you ♥

Please don’t medicate. It can lead to other problems. Try going for a walk, taking a bath, call a girlfriend , surround yourself with good people

You only have one life. Don't waste time wondering. Go after what you want. "Hey guy so I would like more than that" if it works great if not Bye boy and next. You can move on. Don't get stuck in the in between place. I was there once for too & it was my biggest life regret so far. Don't waste time on people who don't deserve it. You'll never be this young again enjoy what you have.

Perhaps tell him? Life has a mortality rate of 100%. Telling him will potentially free you from these thoughts, because you are taking back your power instead of being mute and at his mercy if you know what I mean.
