Should I report?

Answered 3 years ago

Kid How at my childs school told my child he gets the belt for punishment. Using violence on a child is NOT something I am for. A belt is way over the top. Should i report them?

As said above tell the teacher. If you’re concerned over a child’s safety they will know the appropriate steps to take and will do what needs to be done to help support the child. It could just be something innocent, like the father saying “get the belt, it’s time for a belting” without actually touching or using the belt, or the child could be getting physically abused at home. You’re obviously concerned enough to be asking so it would be good to just tell the teacher what you know and go from there.

Tough one. A girl in my daughters class once told me that she hates visiting her dad because he hits her, often with a belt. This girl wasn’t my child’s friend but walked home with us sometimes. I didn’t know her or her parents. I didn’t know if she was lying, exaggerating or really was being hurt. I decided not to say anything but regretted that. She left the school the next year. I hope she’s ok. Perhaps you could tell the teacher. The teacher may be trained in how to handle this situation.
