So I have been IF for 5 months and eat between the window of 11am-7pm.
To lose weight you still need to eat pretty decently during that window. If your smashing junk and not making an effort to move some then I can’t see it being all that effective.
I eat low carb and have steady weight loss but I was also bigger to start with so that would also be a factor.

I guess I do it all the time. I'm not a big eater. Who needs lunch anyway right? And I'm built like a stick, size 6-8 so it must work. BUT I also make sure I get nutrients when I do eat, so I eat plenty of veg and a bit of meat at tea time and low salt. So I make most of my meals from scratch. I do have a weak spot for a hot Milo in the morning though.

I do this, but i am not super strict about it. Have lost about 20kg, and am now maintaining that loss pretty well. During the time im not fasting, i eat ANYTHING i want, it’s amazing really, i cant believe i can eat chocolate and drink alcohol but still lose weight! At first it took some will power, but now my body is used to it i kind of naturally fast without paying attention to the clock.

How many hours were you fasting for and for how many days?

ANSWER

Yes I have. I started with 5:2 (fasting 2 days a week) and I also did a few weeks of fasting 5 days a week. It definitely works and it's steady and manageable. By fasting I mean 800 calories. I followed the books /advice of Dr.Mosley

Op if the comment here. It gets easier. I would usually skip breakfast then have to meals of 400 calories. Keep carbs low as they're usually high in calories and don't make you full for long. Lots and lots if veggies and small portions of protein.

I tried. Stopped eating at 6pm and started at 11am next morning. But wasn't working for me.i found myself hungry.
I have found eating more, smaller healthier meals to be my winner. I eat 6 a day

I have tried the approach of eating during a limited number of hours during the day, and it is fantastic for me.

I am not sure if that is what is referred to as "intermittent fasting".

I was using the guidelines provided by a Brisbane cancer surgeon, Dr Andrew Renaut, an approach which he calls Nysteia. As an individual, he practices it with a smaller amount of food than I could manage to get by on.

I did not start eating until midday (1pm if I could manage it), and complete all eating by 6pm.
That is a 5 hour window per day.

I lost 10 kg in a matter of 2 months before I started getting careless and continuing to eat into the evening, which is my weakness.

I have retained the loss I achieved, and once we are back into summer I will have another disciplined run at it.

From teenage years onwards I have never felt hungry until 10.30 am at the earliest, so that isn't too much of a stretch for me. I could not face breakfast from age 12 onwards.

The other fasting approach of not eating at all for a day, and going back to normal eating for the rest of the week would be intolerable for me.
There is no way I could go all day not eating. I am ravenous by evening. When I have tried that in the past, I was up at midnight eating a couple of choccy biscuits because I couldn't sleep on a completely empty stomach.
