My MIL has kept her late husbands phone connected so she can listen to his voicemail greeting

I did this with my older sister after she passed away (she had MS and couldn't talk very well, and hadn't used her phone for quite a while and it had been disconnected, I didn't know) but a few weeks later I got a phone call from the number they were an old coupleand they said is this you "insert my sister's name" my heart absolutely sunk and I just cried, complete coincidence that they thought my number was someone they knew with the same name as my sister.

I read a story recently where a girl text her dads number with life updates and such for 10 years and finally the person who owned the number and had been reading them all those years replied saying he had a daughter her age, he felt like he knew her, was so proud of her and so on. It was just very sweet.

I read this too, the bloke receiving the text messages had lost his daughter that was the same age as the girl sending the messages.
He claimed he replied when he thought she was at a good place in her life and did not want to while she was grief stricken.
I know someone that pays a loved ones phone bill and calls the voicemail often to hear their voice.

I don’t think this is weird. Some cultures do things like make tea for their deceased mother every morning, I think it is beautiful

No, I do it. It only was weird when I got a reply from someone who's ended up with the same phone number, years later.
