What is your aim in life?
Answered 4 years ago
I think a lot of people would reply ‘happiness’ but when I think about it ..... what is it really to be happy?
This might sound crazy but I actually had a dream a while ago where I asked someone this question, the person was a figure who’s face I couldn’t see because he wasn’t of this world.
He replied that the reason I’m here is to build my character, we build our character in the face of true adversity and how we respond to it. Our goals and our character are what define happiness because progression in our ourselves is what generates a truly happy feeling.
If we don’t progress as people and have simple goals we become negative and depressed.
This got me thinking, no wonder positive ‘affirmations’ don’t work, they are simply empty words uttered hypnotically in the mirror. I’ve only ever been to a psychologist once who told me to do affirmations. Why can’t they explain things more in depth? In a way that actually helps people?
I could talk about this for hours but I’m not close enough with anyone to share so I thought I’d share my thoughts here incase anyone else has the same interests and questions.
I’ve had many more dreams with this faceleless person since but never told anyone because I would sound crazy.
Anyone else had dreams like this?

I have received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of being able to Speak in Tongues (a language given to me, not learned, from God to pray directly to him). As someone who has suffered an anxiety disorder for much of my life, the gift of the Holy Spirit means I can pray to God through speaking in tongues and he gives me comfort and peace. Have a look at revivalcentres.org
My life has been full of healings and provision which I know is from God, when I pray in tongues God hears and answers. God wants everyone to come to know him directly and he will fill them with the Holy Spirit if they believe he is real and asks him to prove it to them. There is so much more to come of our lives, Jesus is going to come back and restore the earth and those who seek him will be saved.

Humans have their emotions for a reason so it’s perfectly fine to be angry or sad at times when appropriate, just as long as we remember to also move on from them. I’m talking in a general sense here.

I usually am happy but this week I am so sad and really hurting, but those feelings are valid and need to be felt so it is not practical to aim for happiness all the time. In fact if I felt happy at this time it would be an extremely inappropriate feeling..
I never said anything about aiming to feel happy all the time, that is indeed unrealistic and unnatural. I meant the aim to be happy and content in a general sense :)
time. Agree with you when you say that striving to be the best version of yourself is profession of you character.

On the other hand, the only thing I really want to achieve is to spread as much love as I can and hopefully help others to do the same. That's the core of it at least. Sure other things would be nice, but they'd essentially be the tool to help me spread love.
I'm currently trying to launch myself back into the workforce. So that I can earn money. So that I can then surprise people with small tokens of how much they mean to me. Whether it be secretly paying off my grandparents power bill, or buying flowers to leave on the graves in the childrens cemetery, or sending care packages to soldiers. There is always a way to spread love, and I will always want to do it.
As for your dream, perhaps you met your preferred deity in your dreams. Seems like a reasonable idea considering how close we hold our own faith and how mysterious our subconscious can be. I'm not even saying it was a diety, maybe you faced your own interpretation of your conscience. I occasionally feel like I've met my faith in dreams. Never in a massive obvious way. More like "oh that figure in my dream made sense on a deep level in some way. Then at the end of my dream they seemed to be almost tangible" kinda way. And I find myself more centred afterwards. But, I guess that comes down to your personal set of beliefs.

My dreams are usually resolution based on situations I experienced years ago. I guess my mind needs closure and dreams it instead 😂

To answer your question I think we are here to have purpose and it’s up to us to figure that out. It can change throughout our lives but we have to keep growing, having a purpose keeps us young, happy, kind and fulfilled.
