We have 6 kids under 18 and we budget about $300 each roughly depending on what gifts they are getting and what they have asked for. We tend to go away at Christmas so if their presents come in under then we use that for experience and day trips etc

My husband works as a FIFO crew leader in a mine and I own a wholesale nursery. Unfortunately trolly, we pay tax - not receive it. Thanks for the judgement, Merry Christmas xx

Someone had made nasty comments but seems as though SAHM have deleted them. I hate the stereotype around large families.

We spend an average of $100-$150 per child. Our boys are 9 & 6. This year the oldest wanted a Nintendo game which was $70 and the youngest wanted a skateboard which was only $30 then we get them each a book, new pyjamas & a lego set. It tends to average out since one year one asks for the more expensive present and the other the next.

Between 300-600 depending on what they’ve asked for really.

Yep, and I’m spoilt too. My parents paid off my mortgage when they sold their business, I got given a car on my 16th. Our parents take me and my brothers, our partners and our kids overseas every year.

I’m definitely way more spoilt than my kids. I still get 2k at Christmas from Santa every year lol. So 300-600 is pretty tame in our family lol. My brother will spent 3k each child and he has 4.

Why is spoilt see as so negative?

I don't. I think we should spoil those we love 💜

My 3 children didn’t get things through the year and Xmas was the time to spoil them. I would start shopping in the January sales and get a little through out the year. Now they are adults 30,26 and 18 and still get Santa sacks.along with their partners. This with a large extended family to buy presents for and I probably spent about 6000

We spent $750 on presents this year for everybody. That covers our 2 kids, my 3 nieces, 2 lots of parents, 2 secret Santa presents for the adults in my family and 6 friends kids.
Half of that was a trampoline for our kids though.

I'd say $50 each.
We refuse to go extreme with xmas.
We stick to the 4 presents
1. Something to wear
2. Something to read
3. Something you want
4. Something you need

Birthdays are a bit more special so we get more then but we try to enforce the concept that xmas isn't about how much you get.

ANSWER

All our gifts for our 2 (6&2yrs) is about 400ish on the layby but part of that (maybe $100 worth) is getting kept aside for when it's the youngest's 3rd birthday 3 weeks after Xmas. Makes it easier putting all on the christmas layby that way no stress for his birthday as work shuts down from Xmas until less than a week before his birthday

They get 1/2 things but usually expensive, so maybe $500-1000 each. Last year my teenager got new Samsung and some knickers, this year she's getting a Polaroid and a hoodie she likes off wish, but my 11 year old is getting a PlayStation.

Absolutely underwear for Xmas present - that's been a xmas tradition for as long as I've known.

My grandmother used to do it for me and I give underwear for my kids.

I have a nearly 2 year old, we have so much'stuff' acculmulated through the year and from friends and family, she doesn't really need anything. We are just spending around $150 and she will receive lots of small gifts off family. When she's older and appreciates the value of things we will probably spend more, but for now, she would be happy with just the wrapping off gifts.

Got 3 kids and I've spent about $300 each on them and really they have next to nothing. They are all under 7 so they've got about 6-8 big toys each, I got them new doona covers for their beds and I spent $100 between the 3 of then on stocking stuffers the other day and the probably got about 8 things each for their stockings. It sucks because everything is so expensive. I also got them some board games and some cards and a few things to do outside like a pool and a giant dinosaur sprinkler. We're also getting them life jackets for Christmas because hubby and I bought kayaks for each other and we're taking them when we go to the beach. Oh yeah, they are getting a trip to the beach the day after Christmas as well. Because why not lol. So that's another $1000 or so. We get lucky with accommodation because I have family that we stay with when we go down there so it's a lot cheaper.

I agree with everything being expensive! I like to buy a few presents for stocking stuffers from Santa.. some books and small toys but this literally costs me $100! Books are $10 minimum these days. 2-3 books each and that’s $40-60 on just books 😳 board games are minimum $15
I’m actually going to buy some of those 50c bubble Wands from Kmart this year as a cheap stocking stuffer and some art supplies so I don’t spend massive amounts

You both make me feel better. I intended to spend less than $100 per child but it's blown out because they want specific things. Add a couple of books, a board game and I'm double that! And I haven't bought that much, plus bought on sale.
Now both our siblings are unexpectedly coming for Christmas with their herd of kids so now I'm unhappily off to buy more.

I totally get it. I’ve bought presents for all. But it doesn’t feel ‘enough’ and the kids love tipping open a few presents each so I’m off to get more. It’s what we make it and every year I think the same thing, but adults how do you skimp and buy a $20 present? WhAt do you even get for that!?
So all my adult presents are more than $50 each minimum too :(

OP of this comment. I had absolutely no intentions of spending as much as I did. I just walked around and went "oh this kid will like that and this kid likes these" sort of deal. I've been doing laybys since September, afterpay and zip pay have been my best friend. My 5 year old wants those hatchimal grow things but they were $105 when I was looking at them and I really can't justify spending that much on 1 gift. It's ridiculous when you want to be able to spoil your kids because god knows they deserve it and can't because everything is so damn expensive. I know they'll love and appreciate everything they've got but because they are awesome kids.

Maybe $50 each at most, but probably more like $30. Mine are 4yo and 1.5yo. My kids get bits and pieces throughout the year, so don't need heaps at Christmas. We like to focus on spending time with family.

I have a $100 limit for my two children. However now that they are a bit older (13 and 10), $100 doesn't go very far. I've blown my budget this year and I'm mad at myself for it. But next year we decided that we will have one or two presents and spend money on doing fun things in the school holidays instead.
