Posting everything on social media

Answered 4 years ago

Do you think it’s wrong to post everything about your children on social media? I’m talking potty training pictures, embarrassing stories etc.
I’ve noticed a lot of friends posting photos to Facebook of their children sitting on the toilet or some embarrassing story about how they wet the bed and can’t fathom why anyone would want to share these embarrassing moments of their children.

I have a group chat with my mum and siblings. I share my kids stories there. No one else on social media needs to know about my children.

Agree! I don’t know why people feel they must share every detail of their lives on social media. I’m currently being harassed to share that I am pregnant on social media. I don’t see why I should have too. Our daughter knows, our families, close friends and work mates know.. why do people we associate with online only have to know too?

Absolutely agree. Children should have the right to establish their own digital footprint. All you need is for someone to turn one of their photos into a meme and then it's all over the internet with any number of inappropriate messages. I always think about whether I'd want that particular picture of me on the internet and if the answer is no I wouldn't consider posting it of someone else.

I'm a bit worried about over-sharing of MY kids by a certain relative - I know she loves them, but I think it's time for an awkward conversation about boundaries :(

Totally with you on this! These kids will grown up and have FB of their own one day...
