Being contacted on days off

Answered 1 month ago

I work part time and i am finding that lately, on my days off, my boss or manager are still contacting me regarding work issues. Is this normal practise? It’s starting to bother me, as my days off are my time with my children. How do i stop this without causing further issues? I work part time for a reason.

I wouldn't answer the call, unless they're paying me to be on-call.

I work as a casual for a very large company and I see permanent staff being taken advantage of all the time. It is very unfair and as a mum with young kids hoping to return to full time it concerns me immensely. It actually sounds like discrimination as parents can’t always go above and beyond you need to put your family first.

It's really not ok for anyone even if they don't have a family.

Change your mobile message, to something like you're out of range, send a text or email & you'll respond when you're able. Then don't answer work calls or emails.

Make a record of the calls and texts you receive and add them to your time sheet, or just collect some data and share it with your colleagues. They need to know.

It’s FAR from ok. You need to re-set those boundaries by reminding your colleagues that you’re not available to be contacted on certain days of the week. That’s your time!

Happened to me in a previous job ALL THE TIME. Drove me nuts. I left.

Ask them to email you on days off and not to call during time off.
