Would you tell people or not?

Answered 5 years ago

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant from ivf. I have a super high risk of miscarriage because of adenomyosis( even after 12 weeks). I have always wanted to wait until 12 weeks to tell people, even our family. But my husbands brother and his wife told people they were pregnant (about 8weeks) but they followed it with you can tell anyone you want but if she miscarriages it was our job to tell those people we told. My husband really likes this idea. I can see it as a valid point as if I do have a miscarriage it would be nice to have someone in the world who knew about it and could talk to. But i am split about it and unsure how to proceed?

It's more than just needing to tell the people you told though, those people would have told other people and so on. If you're going to tell people before 12 weeks I think it's best to tell them not to tell anyone at all until you're ready for everyone to know. It's not nice to miscarriage and have acquaintances say congratulations how's the pregnancy going in the middle of Woolies and then having to awkwardly explain you have lost it.

If you don't want to tell everyone but still want to share, choose a couple of trusted friends or family members and tell them. But let them know they aren't to share it with anyone. Then if anything happens you will have a couple people who know what's going on and can support you. Ultimately, just do what you feel comfortable with.

If you lose the pregnancy and you have already announced you will probably find you get a lot of support. If you wanted to wait until after 12 weeks and you lose the pregnancy before then you will probably find you have less support. The decision is a personal one, and you shouldnt make it based on what others might do, or think you should do. Tell those you wish to share the journey with, come what may. And..... congrats on your BFP xx
