How can people start watching a movie not from the beginning?

I do this all the time. If I start from the beginning I either fall asleep and miss the end or I need to do something half way thru and miss the end. So I just start watching wherever it's at

You just press the forward button to skip the start. Any other really simple stupid questions you wanted answers for?
