Influenza

Answered 4 years ago

I have been diagnosed but the doctor with influenza I am COVID19 negative I have antibiotics taking paracetamol every 4 hours and plenty of fluids. What else can I do to help get over this I have a very sick family member in hospital who hasn’t got long left and I would like to say a proper goodbye but due to being sick I can’t enter the hospital.

Looking for any tried and true methods to help get over it and prevent from getting sick again. I am extremely run down due to the relative being in hospital and being there everyday. No echinacea, menthol, eucalyptus due to allergies

I had influenza once, I was sick, like actual so sick for about 2 months. I'm sorry being sick inconveniences you, but no one plans to be sick. I just got a viral infection and tonsillitis when I was meant to be taking my child in for surgery, very inconvenient. But if you're going to run yourself down more don't expect to recover Fast. Everyone is busy and no one wants to or plans to be sick but we just have to get on with it and give ourselves a chance to recover

I could only think rest as much as you can. Sleep and let your body work through it.

If you’re not tired and your sore throat is the worst symptom you have, you have a mild cold not the flu. Influenza knocks you off your feet.

I am definitely tired intact I am exhausted I just don’t have the time to rest that is what I am saying I have responsibilities and no one that can help so I have to force myself to keep going. I also have a very sick relative in hospital which I am responsible for so me being sick is very inconvenient as I need to be at the hospital for them but I can’t

Then you should be in bed. You want to visit your sick relative in hospital while you have a contagious illness? If they are in hospital then they are being liked after. You’re no good to anybody if you don’t rest. You could even find yourself in hospital with pneumonia. For goodness sakes, don’t be a martyr! Rest!

I never said I am going to the hospital all I said is besides my relative I have other responsibilities and I have other people at home who need looking after so I have to keep going and don’t have the option to rest it isn’t like i don’t want to o rest I don’t have anyone who can help.

And if you pass on the flu to someone other than your relative who also cannot afford to be sick? Surely if this pandemic has taught you anything it’s the importance of isolation when you’re contagious. And what happens when you end up in the hospital yourself cos you haven’t taken care of your health like you should? The quickest way to get over the flu is rest. And that is the best thing you can do for everyone including yourself. There are no short cuts.

I never said I was going into the hospital, I am all to aware of the whole contagious thing and when I am going out I am wearing a mask. I have already said I have responsibilities at home and others to take care of I don’t have anyone who can’t help so being in bed and resting isn’t a option as I have to keep going

If you have the flu (a virus), why would you be given antibiotics? That doesn't make sense to me, as they are for bacterial infections. They aren't going to help.
