Has anyone painted tiles instead of replacing them?

Answered 4 years ago

We're doing a mini reno and don't want the hassle of replacing the tiles but we would like to freshen up the look of our kitchen, bathrooms and laundry

Yes, you can do it. Just make sure it is a paint suitable for tiles.

I saw Tara off better homes n gardens do it once and it looked tacky. But then I guess all her stuff is. Get advice from Bunnings. There are products for it so if you do it right it could come up looking great.

The people before us painted the tiles in the bathroom it was horrible, super noticeable and peeled would not recommend. We tried to remove the crap paint job and go back to the original tiles as a cheap make over but it was too hard so had to retile it all, it was worth spending the extra time and money

I painted the tiles on my kitchen backsplash about 2.5 years ago and they still look great. I don’t know how it work on bigger spaces. I know I have read to not paint floor tiles due to the wear and tear they get. If you choose to paint make sure you go over them with sand paper and get them squeaky clean. And use a paint specially formulated for tile. Check out YouTube, there are quite a few videos out there showing how to do it.
