Anyone else thinking all the gov handouts, tax breaks and compensations etc because of Coronavirus are flawed and people

Answered 4 years ago

Anyone else thinking all the gov handouts, tax breaks and compensations etc because of Coronavirus are flawed and people who don't need it are getting it?

My mum is now claiming the job seeker payment of $1100 per fortnight, because the rules for over 60s have been relaxed and now she's 'eligible'. My parents are retired, mum hasn't worked for 10 years and they have plenty of money. They also got the one off $750 payment and spent it on 4x4 car accessories. My hubby has had his hours cut and we've lost $1100 a fortnight and had his pay rise revoked but we not eligible for any gov hand outs. Our friends bought a new 4x4 a few months ago, under their business name, and can now claim the entire amount as a tax deduction because of the tax breaks the gov is giving to small business. They are earning $250,000 a year and pay almost no tax because of all their write offs! They've even employed their housekeeper through their business so they don't even pay for her! It's annoying when there's people who really need the money and may not get it, but others who don't need it are getting it.

Always the case. It’s so frustrating. My daughters’ schools are rife with single mums who moan about being single and ‘not having money for $48 jumpers’, but I can tell you how much their nails and hair cost, and the latest iPhones they’re carrying around. One particular mum is so hard done by because $1700 a fortnight from centrelink isn’t enough yet doesn’t even pack fresh fruit for her kids.

I'm a single mum. Have been for nearly 7 years. I know this wasnt aimed at all single mums but I definitely do not have nice nails. I haven't had my hair cut in a year and I don't have a new phone. My kids always have fresh fruit. The money I receive from centrelink is enough although I never have any left over (my ex also doesn't pay child support).
I have to admit this extra I will now be receiving for the next 6 months is not really needed by me.
I know my rent can be paid, food on the table and utilities paid from what I get already.
I'm studying and working so I wont always be a burden.
The extra money I'll be receiving wont be spent straight away. It'll go straight into a savings account for emergencies. So if the government hoped it would be spent straight away to stimulate the economy then I'm not doing what is expected of me.
Sorry, not sorry.

I think there are people who know how to "play" the system.
I have 3 kids, work full-time, cannot get benefits other than family tax benefit, cannot get housing. A lady who works at my work, has 3 kids the same age as mine, threw a tantrum and got priority homeswest housing that she can buy thru them in a year or two. One child is aboriginal and she manages to get everything free for all the children stating because of that one child's heritage...
I'm not saying she shouldn't claim what she's entitled to, don't get me wrong, but we have identical situations, identical finances (minus that aboriginal claim)and she ends up with so many extras because she knows how to work it.
Kinda wish I was more cunning hahaha

She won’t be eligible to receive it as she has not worked in 10 years - jobseeker with Coronavirus supplement is only for people who recently lost their jobs.

That's incorrect. ANYONE receiving certain payments will get it so if she's eligible for jobseeker she'll also get the extra $550

The $750 stimulus was to spend to help the economy so I don't see what's wrong with using it on parts for the car. At least that would help a company

Don't think parts from China would have arrived yet or been released from customs.

Um why is she getting the jobseeker payment if she's retired?? This sounds wrong.
If she is she probably lied to get it & the government will get her eventually. But yes you're correct alot of people who needed it missed out.
