It’s horrible. I teach my daughter to surround herself with girlfriends and to look out for one another. I’m afraid for her she is 17.

It depends what context.
Iv been accused of victim blaming, for saying it’s not smart to walk alone at night time.
It’s not smart to get so drunk you lose ability to consent.
It’s not smart to put yourself in compromise or positions.

Now in no way do I mean that’s why rape happens. That’s a whole other side of the coin that gets a talking point.
But for example in south crocs you don’t catch the train at hours outside of peak traffic (even midday) because it’s not smart. Bad people target there.
In Brazil it’s not smart to walk in daylight with a fancy camera. You will likely get robbed.

My long winded point is iv been accused of victim blaming and making it their fault when iv shares this opinion.

Because sadly women are still seen as undervalued and seen as property/objects. It's not a womans FAULT that men cant be in charge of their own behaviour and dont know what NO and STOP means. Men are reaponsible for their actions as women are theirs.

Because society has been trained to think and feel that way and we need to re-learn that this is wrong.

Because they are arseholes?
Look up online a video teaching consent using a cup of tea. Brilliant!
Rape victims don’t ask to be raped. No matter how short the skirt, how drunk, married or in a date, flirting or known to have had many sexual partners.
