Ticks

Answered 4 years ago

I live in central NSW and we live very close to bush land and the ticks are TERRIBLE. We have dogs who I've stopped taking for walks because of them and I'm still pulling them out every other day. Ok that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's at least once a week. I check them twice daily at the moment. I was standing in the front yard yesterday and had one crawling on me and I am so paranoid about the kids getting them. Does anyone know if I can get a spray or something? We have next to no plants in our yard (one large gum tree and that's it) the lawn is short and well kept, I've had to block up holes to stop other dogs getting in but there'd easily be 200 feral cats in our area that would be carrying them and bringing them in as well. I am sick of dealing with them and having to pull them out of my poor pets and having to spray the kids down before they can play in their own backyard. Before this year I had seen like 2 ticks in my entire life. How can I get rid of them???

Have your dogs been inside since you have discovered ticks? If so, then you’re going to need to completely clean everything in your home. Hot wash all linens. Curtains included. Vacuum every square inch of your home. Treat the dogs. There is a monthly chew (I buy Nex guard, it’s also a flea preventative) you can give them and that will kill exisiting Ticks and prevent new ones from attaching. My dogs got ticks a few years ago and we had them in the house and this was how we got rid of them.

No dogs are 100% outside. They are hunting dogs and I value my furniture lol. I will look in to those chews but, thank you

Oh gosh I am sorry to hear! I believe you will need to appoint a pest controller at least to investigate and help control the outbreak.
Here are some great tips on our website about being tick aware these Christmas holidays.
