anyine who studied nursing

Answered 5 years ago

I am currently enrolled in uni doing my RNs. I am half way thru first year and kinda shitting myself with the workload and course content and i am just crap at academic writing. I am wondering if a step back and changing to do my EN at tafe would be a better fit. If you get more support there?. I just dont feel like uni is giving me enough support to be honest. I am worried i will do the ENs and then regret not just trying for the RNs at uni. If i change my mind later will my EN course give me credits toward the RN degree or will i be starting over. I dont want to ask anyone publically cause i am so embrarrassed that i have run out of steam.
Thankyou

Yep, I second alot of this. An EN degree only gives you approximately 1 year credit of a three year course so you have essentially already surpassed that. And I have heard so many RNs that took that route regret it. University can be pretty draining and feel never-ending... but if you can get support early from teachers, classmates, and uni support counsellors it can make a world of difference. At the end of the day to get through is mostly about dedicating enough time to study and get through your assignments. ALL the students that are doing well are dedicating more hours and organising themselves well. It is not luck and does not take an exceptional level of IQ - although you may need to acknowledge / find out your learning style. This will help you figure out how you best learn to support that. Get things done early and book appts. with academic staff to go over your assignments before you submit - if you aren't quite hitting the mark with marks. Good luck!

I think you should talk to your course coordinator, I wish I had earlier. If they know you are needing extra support they will happily provide it, however they can. If you don't yell them they won't know.
I think you also need to believe in yourself, self doubt is terrible and can be so damaging.
You have the brains and the want, so just tap into the resources like course coordinator, uni student services etc.
I think you'd regret doing the EN, when you're so capable of being a RN.
Good luck mate and believe in yourself , you CAN do it 🌻

Does your uni offer counselling? Might be a good idea.

I worked with many ENs who ended up doing their RN. All of them regretting not doing their RN first. Honestly, if nursing is what you want to do, stick with your RN. There are so many more opportunities. And the pay gap between EN and RN is huge despite the workload being the same.
