Adding a tenant

Answered 5 years ago

Hi guys, I have rented a property for 2years, but have not added my husband to lease. The owners were completely fine with that, chat with them every few months, they are nice people but go through an agency. I need to add him now as proof of address, but as he doesn’t work(just got granted working rights), what will I need to do/provide for the agency? Anything simple/tricky?

Talk to your real estate. Show them you’re still able to pay rent and he will be added to the lease. They will most likely still ask the landlords, who given they know your circumstances will be more than happy to have him added to the lease. Depending on the agent you may need to pay a fee to have him added, which is very standard. If the agents also knew he was living there you will have no problem at all adding him on. It depends on your property manager but it should be a very simple process.

He will need to fill out an application and id working isn’t an issue unless you’re unable to pay rent. Then they’ll do a TICA check for insurance purposes and to be sure. Then he should be added. This is how we do it in Qld At our agency. But every agency is different.
