Has anyone here gone to uni but only studied one or two units at a time?

Answered 4 years ago

I feel like I will be studying forever but due to work and the kids, house and garden etc. I won't be able to cope with adding much more onto my plate. I wish i had of done my degree before kids but you know... hindsight. I know every house is different, just wondering what other mums have done in similar situations.

I did most of my post graduate degree by distance education, with kids. You will be surprised when you look back at how quickly those years went by, and the completed units mounted up.
I found just a couple of units at a time was all I could manage, and I did a better job of them than I did when studying full time.

I think you put more mental effort in, when you are only studying 1 or 2 units at a time. Your mind is not spread across too many intellectual inputs, and I found I learnt more and consolidated the learnings better with fewer units.
I know I retained a lot more.
With full time study it was like: "cram it in to your brain, send it down your arm onto paper or the computer in final exams, never to be seen again".
It is also a great way to keep your mind active and fulfilled while you are tied up with children. I also found I was mulling over in my brain the information I was learning, while my body was tied up with more mundane activities, such as cooking, cleaning, ironing, gardening etc.

And yes, I did complete the qualification.
