Sickening to even liken child sex abuse to how adults would describe consensual sexual relationships! If there is not already some kind of licence or qualification that makes lawyers able to work in child sex abuse cases then there should be! Lawyers like this should not go anywhere near child sex abuse cases!

Would you prefer paedo's to have better lawyers who could get them a lesser sentence or off their charges altogether by being moral and sensitive to such issues? Dipshit lawyers like this only exacerbate the case against the kiddie tamperer. He's not helping it in any way. He's inciting rage which only reinforces the standpoint against Pell.

I find it incredibly telling that Pell chose an atheist barrister. As a man of the cloth associating with atheists speaks volumes. To me it says I’m so guilty I need the best lawyer money can buy. I will also compromise my religion and not trust in the Lord to protect me by hiring an atheist because I just want to get off on these charges by any means necessary. Most devout Catholics in this situation would not place their trust/ lives in a person who does not believe in GOD.

But in answer to your question, he’s trying to minimise the crimes by saying the abuse was ‘vanilla’, thus trying to reduce the severity of Pell’s sentence, or even trying to allow a non custodial one. Pretty disgusting. There is nothing ordinary about child abuse.

Yes he did, but he was found guilty in December. The lawyer made those comments yesterday during his pre sentencing.

I know, but he seems like a pretty crappy lawyer (and obviously a pretty crappy human being) to say what he said when his client is going to appeal the conviction.

He was already convicted do they can no longer deny it when it comes to sentencing, they have to take on the convictions in their arguments. The appeal would be a separate matter.
