Changing owner ship of dog

About three years ago, we got a dog from a person needing to rehome it but weren't given the microchip details to exchange ownership. How do I go about doing this? I know I need to go to the vet and get the number scanned but what happens after that?

In WA if the owner hasnt signed microchip papers and can't be contacted then you need to write a stat Dec to change it.

Which state are you in? In SA the council are able to sort it out for you. They’ll have a microchip scanner in the office if you take the dog in to be scanned.

Its all online, the Vet should be able to just change it all in the system for you.
