Really depends. This year has probably been around $500 each. We don't have a budget as such, just what they/we want for them.

Usually about $100-$150 on each. We don't go overboard. But then we just brought them all a new trampoline 2 months ago and a $800 laptop for our eldest last week. They also get presents from other family members so they don't need too much.

Every year is diff. Year before last, she got a scooter from us. Forgot what Santa got her.

Last year my daughter asked for a skipping rope and a Ken doll. So we got a skipping rope $5 and Ken doll from 'santa' $10.

This year we gifted an early one to coincide with her instrument playing. So $350 and Santa is getting an aquarium. On Xmas day we got her a $10 pictionary board game.

So I think whatever you want to spend on your child - go for it!

Why do you need validation from others?
It's whatever you're comfortable with and can afford.
My kids had different amounts spent on them. 15 year old $1000 as they would like new phone and some expensive shoes etc, 5 month old baby $20 because baby isn't going to notice.

We spend up to $50 each on our 2 kids (5yo and 2.5yo), probably more around the $30 mark. Usually 1-2 toys each. There may be people who spend heaps and that includes all toys, clothes, shoes etc for the whole upcoming year, so it can be hard to compare. As another poster said, if you can afford it without stressing your finances, spend what you like.

It’s too much if you have to sacrifice essentials or go into debt to buy it.
