Have been to India, Bali & Thailand with small kids. It's fine, just follow the same basic hygiene rules, bottled water (even when boiling water for tea/coffee and formula), very regimented regular hand washing with soap & hot water & sanitiser, be wary of the kids touching their shoes (if they're walking) and when eating out, make sure the food is super fresh and hot, but no cut salad of fruit (unless you wash it yourself with bottled water... even unpeeled fruit. Go with local food if you can (so many people fall sick from eating 'western food' when in Asia). Don't be put off by local restaurants outside the resort... It will be very fine. My now 5 year old ate restaurant food in India at 6 months and Bali at 18 months. Just ask for fresh rice and give them a little bit of the milder dishes. If you let them know it's for kids, they can be very accommodating. (less spice etc). Take a baby carrier if you can. Kids only want to do the pool on holiday anyway, but if you do go out for a wander, this comes in handy as the crowded streets of Asia are hard work with a pram. We honestly had NO problems when travelling with our kids. Take all your own medicines etc too. Have fun.

I haven’t taken young kids but when I go I always see parents struggling with prams in Bali. The footpaths are very narrow and uneven. Sometimes there are big gaps between pavers. I’ve been shoved by people who don’t want to step to the side so just be careful when out walking. But apart from that, I think it’s safe to take your little ones.

I’ve had a pram on then mean streets of Kuta and while it was sometimes really cumbersome, struggling with tired and whingy kids without the pram even more so. As the footpaths are narrow, some people will be annoyed but I found most people were accomodating. So long as you’re also mindful and considerate of others. Also be aware many business have a few steps so a pram will be pain. You could also consider a toddler carrier which we used for our son when he was 2 yo and it worked well

If you decide you want to use a pram, don’t take your own. Cos as above the footpaths are often uneven. Plus, airlines often do not take care when loading. Plus it’s an extra item to check in and wrestle with between airport and hotel. Hire it. PLus any other bulky baby things like cots, baby gates and so forth. Google Bali Baby Hire. But all the good prams go quick so book in advance.

My friend went to Thailand with her 18mo. She absolutely loved it and had no problems with the baby. She'd happily do it again. Hope this helps 😊

Awaiting tne Bali is a Bogan Paradie replies 😂

Been there lots of times since my kids were 1-2. They are 6 and 8 now and we have just booked our next trip, which will be Miss 6’s 4th and Master 8’s 5th trip. My kids absolutely love bali. Bali is very kid friendly. Lots to do. And lots not to do if staying at a resort with kids club is your thing. The Balinese adore children, so prepare for them to receive lots of attention.

Even though food standards and sanitation has improved immensely in recent years, bali still remains part of a third world country. So take precautions. eg, bottled water only, no raw foods, beware of scammers and pick pockets, and so forth. Check out trip advisor.....loads of threads on Bali there.

This was so helpful, hubby and I are planning a family trip to thailand.. as you said at the end (being cautious about bottled water, foods etc) do they sell formula there? Aussie brands? I breast feed but my milk supply isn't the great unfortunately so just wanting to prepare myself!!

I brought my own formula. You probably can buy it over there, don’t know about the brands....but my fussy babies would not have approved. I took Milton tablets to sterilise bottles. Also, nappies are cheap over there. Don’t pack your own, because they will also take up room in your luggage.

Having a little one is ok while in the resort, but tricky while out if they won't stay in the pram. It's very dirty and toddlers will pick up all sorts of stuff.
But it's a great holiday destination once they are a bit older.
