What do you put in your kids lunchboxes?

Answered 4 years ago

I always include a wholemeal sandwich with protein included (cheese or lean meat), chopped veggies 2-3 types, chopped fruit 2-3 types. And 2 types of small treats like a small quantity of sultanas, yogurt crackers, a plain sweet biscuit or home made baked good. What about you?

Depends on the options at your school canteen. I pack my kids lunches in the morning and put an ice pack in, so I think that is pretty much as fresh as the canteen lol

Cheap? It's like $7 for the cheapest lunch option here! Maybe our canteen is just pricey! I do let the kids order the $5.50 sausage sizzle on sports carnival day , that's my canteen limit haha

My boy isn't a fruit eater. He just isn't a fan. Must mean I'm a shit mum hahaha but I try to make up for that with veggies and dairy....
His standard lunchbox has salami, cheese, sliced carrot, a Sammy usually with jam/Vegemite/nutella a popper and a pack of chips. Sometimes he'll have one of those squeezy yogurts if there's any left in the fridge and sometimes I'll throw in a few $$ for a slushy or whatever from tuckshop

I asked him a few weeks back who out of his mates has the best lunches and he said this kid in his "group" has doughnuts, up and go's and all packaged up sugary shit. That kids mum is a teacher at the same school!!
Lunch box shaming is REAL, PEOPLE!! Hahaaaaaa

Does your kid have time to play after getting through all that? Geez, they don’t need that much food.

Well since we're bragging, polony or nutella on cheap white bread with that $1.60 woolies brand "spread", a piece of homemade cake or weetbix slice cos school snacks are getting too expensive and are covered in too much plastic packaging.
Sometimes an apple or orange or banana but usually they just bring them back home again, usually mushed or bruised or oozing into the homework at the bottom of their bags.

Sounds like you don’t really need any ideas.......are you just hoping to hear how you’ve made other Mums feel crappy about their kids’ lunchboxes? Lol Do they eat the 3 fruit and 3 veg? Or do you just put it in so they have choice? My kids have a sandwich -either cheese or vegemite or rice cakes same toppings. They have two kinds of fruit, a yoghurt, small pack sultanas, grain crackers or popcorn, one “junk food” thing like biscuits, cheese stick, sometimes muesli bars or bliss ball type things.

changes a lot.
Apple, yoghurt, “healthy banana bread” so health food bars and bliss balls.
One of my kids will let me pack smoothies.
One love seaweed:
One loves date based things.
Avocado wraps and salad sandwich depending on the kid.
Leftovers.
My 3rd has all kindy meals prepared so no issue there.
I like to prepare Sunday (all small snap containers full of carrot, cucumber, tomatoe. My kids just pack in the morning from the pre packed foods. Let’s th feel in control.

Nothing. They make themselves a ham sandwich and chuck it in a zip lock bag.
