How are you keeping your kids entertained?

Answered 4 years ago

My kids have been using way too much technology lately because we can’t go out. They are active. A bike ride or walk helps but we can’t just walk the streets all day. I’m finding it hard to keep them entertained 24/7. Normally we would go out, have fun, do the things they want to do but of course we can’t do that at the moment. I love my kids but I’m finding their boredom to be hard to manage.

We have done a million different ones (I think I might have done a hip doing a bollywood dance one yesterday🤣). We just look up kids exercise/ kids yoga/ kids dance/ kids stretches...I don't think we have done the same one more than once! Have fun!

My kids are little and driving me up the wall lol we live in the country but our yard is small so yesterday I took them to an open field to just run and burn energy but when we all sat down for a drink, I put a towel down and this man pulled over his car, ran over and started screaming at me like a psycho about how we can't have picnics and social distancing. Kids bawled their eyes out and I thought he was going to hit me.

That is terrible! I wasnt allowed in the Post Office the other day because we were a ‘group of three’, people in the que actually told me to leave my 4 & 7 yr old outside on the corner while i went in by myself! This was in the middle of the city too, obviously i didnt, scared my kids too, 7 year old looked at me with desperate eyes, saying ‘nooo mummy’ when she thought she may get left on a street corner!

I kick them outside. There's stuff to do in the backyard, the gate is padlocked and between our 3 dogs and the neighbors dog, no one is getting near the yard without me at least hearing it. They are way too energetic to let them stay inside all day. If you're inside you're cleaning the house with mum is pretty good incentive to stay outside too lol.

Depends on ages. My 11 year old wanted to learn to braid hair so we’ve been YouTubing and practising that. Reading books, dusted off some board games and a deck of cards, baking. Colouring in. YouTubing funny clips. Google the bin challenge - your kids might want to have a go.
We planted some veg seeds and have been looking after those. Backed the car out of the garage and made handball squares with chalk.

I make them play in the backyard a lot lol we have a trampoline, swigs, sandpit etc. I let them watch about an hour of telly in the morning, then kick them outside til lunch (I usually go outside too and do gardening, or read a book etc for a large chunk of time). After lunch it is family exercise time- walk in the bush out back of our house. When we get back I break out something “fun” like play dough or paints and do that for a little while- then they can either play outside again or inside with their toys. I’ve been doing late afternoon baths (let them have a nice long one, so it breaks up the afternoon a bit lol) Then when I’m cooking dinner tv goes on again, then dinner, then more tv or family game, then story and bed. 😁

These are all great ideas. I love the idea of a family game too. Might break out some of the board games to play after dinner from now on.

Thank you. We’ve been trying to do all of these but I’ve ran out of art supplies. And unfortunately our yard is small so they don’t have a lot of room to ride and scoot but you have given me an idea to make do with what we have. Thank you
