School going back?

Answered 4 years ago

Who thinks school will go back properly once the holidays are over? Or do you think the kids will be told to continue staying home?

I am a teacher. I believe it will be open for essential workers only. Kids will learn from home if they have the capacity to do so - and essential workers kids may also access the online learning but from school also. It's impossible to be running half a class as per usual say with 15 kids while planning a digital one runs at home where you are meant to also be responsive to students and parents at home also and giving feedback etc. You can't effectively give 100% to both..One or the other has to give slightly

This is exactly what I think they will do. Children of essential workers will be supervised in a class room by maybe 3-4 teachers, depending on student numbers that could be more, and work online as the rest of the kids are at home. Then the other teachers can continue working with their online classes. They won’t completely shut schools because they don’t want to risk anymore people losing jobs or not having enough nurses, doctors, cleaners, supermarket workers, tradies, etc.

Essential worker definition though,? Morison just said everyone who is working is essential in this economy. I tutor private kids through a school which I am instructed to be doing online now. and if open I will be sending my kids to their public school if I can, so that I can work. Though I do feel my kids' teachers will frown on this(they don't know what I do)..I know another parent started feeling unwelcome, works for gov and not allowed kids at home when working. Interesting things happening here

No chance, sorry. My son's teacher has already set up an FB group & is prepping everyone. There's no way QLD teachers will allow students back. Fair enough.

However..... I'm being told DD should be at her daycare kindy because it's safe. The staff made me feel bad for taking her out because of $$.... But don't go out unless essential...

I'm so confused!!!

I don't understand why schools aren't allowed open but daycares are? I work in childcare and I certainly don't want to be bringing anything home to my own kids. They need to close everything down including childcare

Staff are only thinking about their jobs. I think its appalling they made you feel guilty

Im really confused about this too! My kids school is closed from tomorrow, my Kindy kid is still 4 so can go back to daycare, which im thinking about doing so she can continue her learning and socialising, but im not sure why her Kindy class is cancelled at school but she can go to a kindy class at daycare 🤯, also cant play at a park, but can play at a daycare?! Ive hit overload, brain wont work 🤪🥴

Daycares are staying open and telling everyone to come because they will fold and shut if people take their kids out. Schools are funded by the govt. and continue to receive funding while children learn from home. Childcare centres receive funding in the form of fees and childcare benefit paid to them by the govt on behalf of families. Parents don’t want to pay while kids aren’t going. No kids=no funds coming in, meaning centres can’t pay staff or keep afloat. That’s why the govt is now spruiking “free childcare” and telling everyone it is safe. Meanwhile on the NSW health site there is a fact sheet saying children can catch and spread Covid 19. The children themselves will show only mild or no symptoms in most cases, but could make their teachers seriously ill. But no-one gives a shit about EC educators at any other time, so why start now hey....

I got an email today with log in details for online learning. It is meant to be the last day of at home learning before the school holidays. So I'm thinking that my Qld public school will go online next term and is getting prepared.

Who knows if school will be back. A teacher that says it won’t is only speculating because no one knows. Right now they are Planning for the worst case scenario and assuming school Won’t return term 2. My opinion is it will but kids won’t be full time. Maybe half the class will be there in the morning and the other half the afternoon or something like that .

They are preparing for the worst case scenario. I think 2 weeks extra off and then all kids will be back at school. I also think that schools will remain open for essential workers like this week has been in QLD. New cases have been on a good steady decline. If we keep abiding by the rules, keep trying hard to stop this then we can get a little bit more freedom in a month or two. Life won’t completely return to normal for a long time but they will be able to slowly lift a few restrictions quicker than they were planning.

The Government has not decided yet. Every day they have to decide on something. There is a government announcement happening right now (Tues 2nd April) about giving child care to every family with 50% paid by the government. Have a look on the news. People are commenting that they don't believe this is real- it's some sort of April fool's joke. This may include out of school hours care, which is what I work in. At least I'm hoping to go back to work.
