Terrified of quitting my job

Answered 4 years ago

I need to put in notice to quit my job but I'm absolutely terrified of how my boss will react and the way I will he treated while I'm working my two week notice period. I feel sick over it but can't put it off any long. The reason I'm leaving is because of stress, it's the worst company I've ever worked for in my life but I'm obviously not going to say that, I don't know what I will say though. Does anyone please have any advice?

Agree, i felt this way about quitting jobs before, but then after finally handing in my notice, realised how expendable i was, and then was like why the hell was i concerned about what they thought in the first place. Good luck

Be honest - it'll give you strength and power.

If they ask why - say the truth. Because you hate the toxic culture of a company that has no idea of how to treat people so you're moving onto much better things.

Don't let them het you down. They have no power over you. You have a future which is better than being in that shit place. Fuck that.

Eat a shit load of fragrant foods and fart the shit outta the place!!! There's no law against it, they may decide to pay you to stay home to avoid your farts!!!

Fuck them!! You owe them nothing!! They're only slaves to the company. You're outta there.

But you do know dont you, that you dont need to tell them why you're leaving.

You can take annual leave for 2 weeks starting Monday morning. In the last 5 mins of your shift the week before, hand her your notice. Job done. You can serve your notice period over annual leave. True dat.

She doesn’t have to put her manager as a reference on her resume. She can put the name of a supervisor or manager at another branch. A lady I worked with left my store to manage another one. I put her down as my referee.

I think you may have replaced me at Miller’s! I swear your story is just like mine. I rang HR and found out how much sick leave I had owing. I handed in my notice and made sure I used my sick leave in that time. The days I worked I didn’t speak to my manager at all. I stayed at opposite end of shop at all times. I took a little longer for lunch. Needed the toilet far more than normal. I just avoided the manager as much as I possibly could.

I worked in Miller’s and crossroads. Some nasty bitches for managers and the regional managers won’t support you. I developed anxiety and stress going into work. I quit too. Just want to add, there are some lovely managers too. Just no support from those above.

Take a plate of food or big box of chocolate and leave it morning in the lunch area indicatng it is from you. Other will come and talk to you more nicely every time when they grab a choc or so, which will help you to feel easy around the passing day..
Don't worry ..
You have done the most hardest thing which is come to the decision .
You have acknowledged that place is toxic and YOU don't deserve that shit aanymore and ready to move on to the next beautiful chapter of your life.
Keep your head high this time around your manager as there's nothing to you to lose..

Once you have decided to leave, be brave thank your boss for the opportunity submit the resignation no explanation is necessary and then grin and bear it. There are a lot of people out of work your boss will know this and take advantage of them.

Do you have any personal leave available? You can ask your gp for a medical certificate to cover you purely for stress/anxiety.

I do have personal leave, would I put in notice and then go on leave or vice versa do you think?

^i would put my notice in, take the personal leave and supply a medical certificate so you’re covered. I really feel for you - I have been in the same situation.

I agree with this, hand in your notice and medical certificate together (be sure to keep a copy of both). They can't have you working if you have a certificate to say you can't. If they ask why, just say personal reasons. I know it's not easy, but just focus on yourself and how good it will be to never deal with them again.

If you have a new job to go to I wouldn’t worry about it. As others have said you can use personal/ sick leave lots of people do this expecially when they leave a job due to stress. I relocated jobs due to stress my boss was a power hungry so and so. I loved the company and everyone else so managed to tee up a position at another facility. I had planned on putting in a complaint against that boss but never did so that is easier said than done!

I understand. I worked for a company like that very briefly. It was destroying any sense of self worth, confidence and happiness.

Ask if you can reduce or remove the two week period. Most people I know who've asked have been able to leave immediately as the company don't want unhappy staff working there. If not & you're not looking for a reference, use up any sick leave you have. Just be mindful of medical certificate policies for multiple days. Failing that, just remember each day is closer to finishing & you don't have to put up with it anymore.
