Toenail problems

Answered 4 years ago

My big toenails have something wrong with them. Maybe a fungal infection, I’ve been burying my head in the sand about them as I’m too embarrassed to go to the podiatrist. They are cracked and have gone a slightly odd shape. The cuticle has also gone weird. I clean them as best I can and paint them. I’m scared of the podiatrist removing them etc. has anyone else been successfully treated for this kind of thing? I have no idea how they became this way. The only thing I can think of is using one of those cheap nail places for a pedicure. Perhaps I picked something up there.

Mine went an odd colour and thick after leaving shellac on them a long time. I’m with you OP.. let me know if the podiatrist works out or if you opt for anti fungal treatment. I feel like the podiatrist is a costly option for toe nails 🤢

You can just get an anti fungal nail treatment at the chemist.
You don't need a podiatrist.
Try the anti fungal treatment and if there isn't an improvement get some antibiotics from the GP.
The sooner you treat it the best your chances are to keep your nails.

You can get ultraviolet light treatment. Go to the pharmacist or gp for an opinion. Cheap podiatry at Uni’s too. Good luck

Yep, see a Podiatrist. Skip the drug store fungal treatments for now . They take a LONG arse time and your issue seems quite severe.

A podiatrist isnt going to be grossed out by your nails. Go see one, that’s what they’re there for.

You definitely have an infection

Stop painting them to start with. Let the nail breathe and just bite the bullet and go see a doc or even just a chemist. Better for them to see what's going on without the paint. In the mean time you could bathe them in warm salty water.
