Overkill for sure, a new relationship many people would find this overwhelming like someone else has said. Is he excited about going away? Does he see birthdays as a big deal? If you expect the birthday madness in return communicate this now, I have read on here soooo many times about partners not going to much effort on birthdays and posters getting especially annoyed if they went to heaps of effort and got bugger all in return.
