I think it should be more case specific rather than just giving all walks the same amout of money. a 54yr old woman should not have to be stuggling in this day and age in Australia. It's the young, bludgers who don't give a hoot to look for work that people don't want their hard earned $$ going to.
In saying that, it is what it is at this point but there are places out there that help women with these types of things. I know its hard asking for help but I would go to my local community centre or the like and see what help is available so she can live a more comfortable life

Im a social worker working in community services. There is no money left to help these people. When ladies (like the one mentioned in this feed) approach us for help, we can perhaps give them 2 tampons and 1 roll of toilet paper, IF she is EXTREMELY LUCKY and has arrived on a lucky day she may get help with filling ONE prescription.

This is the problem, people like the poster above are led to believe there is all this extra help available to people doing it tough, there isnt, its all gone (the money) and there a much more people accessing this type of help then ever before, so what we have is depleted very quickly.

That is so sad. Our community center gives out "dignity packs" to those who need it that gets donated by community members. Our local woolies has a donation bin for sanitary products/womens things that people donate to. I wish larger communities had people that gave a shit like that.

There's plenty of money, it's just incorrectly allocated - meaning to keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor.

It's a national disgrace that refugees are treated better than our own goddamned citizens.

Newstart is far too low for someone genuinely chasing a job.
And I agree older people who will find it almost impossible to get a job should be on a higher rate.
This Govt need a kick up the arse. They take no notice of differing levels of need. The one size fits all approach results in a lot of inequity.
And their bullying approach has spread into all the public services that they are steadily de-funding, so no staff can explore an individuals needs properly.

Age based discrimination is starting at age 40. Especially for women.
A large organisation I worked for, as soon as it was taken over by male dominated private sector management, every female over 40 was pushed out. And the place was stocked with young attractive females to make sure the gender balance was kept looking acceptable.
But if any of those females thought they should be given more responsibility, and promotions, after they had gained experience, they were soon bullied out.
