Do you eat a healthy diet most of the time? What would a typical day of eating look like for you?

Answered 4 years ago

I’m trying to cut back on sugar and eat more healthily overall. Would love to know what everyone else tends to eat.

I make my own mixture of different healthy cereals for breakfast with mango & peach yogurt instead of milk, I love it. I make a killer tuna salad sandwich usually for lunch or tuna salad if i want to skip the bread & dinner varies everyday could be anything from bake dinner, stir fry, pasta whatever. If we're feeling naughty we make nachos. I think key is to try and be good most of the time but not all the time because you'll just rebel & go to the dark side. Don't drink your calories. Try and find an alternative to your unhealthy go to - mine is chocolate so I try to only get dark chocolate or dates. That seems to curb it.

Can I ask what your tuna salad recipe is please?

Sure. It's pretty simple. For the sandwich (healthy bread) tuna in olive oil, onion, baby spinach & rocket, little bit of salt, cracked pepper & picklenaise (i just love this stuff but don't have too much). For the salad - tuna, onion, baby spinach or rocket, picklenaise- this is the basis but i always throw in any or all of the rest depending on whats in the kitchen - diced beetroot, feta, lentils, pinenuts or sunflower seeds. I tend to like strong flavours in my food like capers, olives, chillis so it might not be for everyone but I love it.

Oooh & with the picklenaise just at little on the top of the salad not swimming in it. You could use anything though. Regular light mayo, Balsamic vinegar etc

I know he seem to be hated by all, but Pete Evans paleo website really helped me kick start healthy eating and exercise. I wouldn’t pay for it ( or any other type of thing like that) . It was free recently and I have signed up. Not following it to the dot, it just gave me some ideas and kick started my healthy diet and exercise. Its working for me, I have lost 5kg so far, my skin has been very clear and bright. My husband can’t believe I am not putting anything on it ( I have pcos and anything with no sugar and low/ no carbs seem to improve my wellbeing) I still have 2 coffees a day and occasional bread, pasta (I love bread... boohoo). Drinking heaps of water helped me with quitting sugar and processed junk.

I would like idea of how that's possible. 500 isn't much. What are you eating?

In the morning I have some lemon water or just ice water and my vitamins.
Lunch time I have low calorie smoothie or shake,
Then dinner is usually just small portion of meat and vegetables or salad.
It’s extreme once I am at my goal weight I will push my calorie intake to 1500calories to maintain the weight.

I got down to 50kg (from 70kg) eating 500 calories a day, it took 14 weeks exactly, then I started eating 1200 calories, I eventually got back up to 55kg and now I just eat whatever I want as long as it's clean.
I wasn't really hungry on a 500 cal diet as I don't have much of a huge appetite anyway, for example..
I'd have an egg and spinach for breaky, oranges, apples and strawberries, or celery and carrot sticks for snacks, Turkey slices and cherry tomato for lunch, chicken and salad for dinner and 2 squares orangic chocolate if I felt like something sweet. Lots of water, green tea, sometimes a coffee with almond milk.

I've only lost 16kg through no exercise so hopefully my advice is ok. My normal day looks like.....

Breakfast - 2 eggs on wholemeal toast with vegemite or eggs on corn thins.

Lunch - Tuna on ryvitas or a wholemeal sandwich or leftovers

Dinner - Veggies with a protein (chicken or pork or fish.

Snacks - Fruit or fruit shake. Nuts or even a small amount of chocolate. I'll often have s small serve of ice-cream for dessert too.

I try and drink 500ml or 1l of water about 30 mins before every meal.

Portion control has been key for me. read the packaging and eat the suggested serving size of foods. Often they are alot smaller than what you think they are.

Theres something bad that can happen to your kidneys with too much milk. I reckon 2L a day might be pushing it!

Tips;
- Don't drink soft drinks, fruit juice - only drink water tea/herbal tea/coffee(not in excess), milk
-Eat healthy breakfast, oats with yogurt and fruit, or pan cook eggs spinach tomato
-snacks ideas; cucumber carrots with hummus dip, boiled egg - can mash it up with curry powder, a little mayo and put on rye vita crackers, a bunch of mixed nuts, fruit, avo
-dinner- half the meal should be salad/vege (or all if you are vege/vegan), with some protein - meat/fish/egg/tofu, and a little carbs - sweet potato etc You can eat can eat as much salad/vege as you want - the health variety not the deep fried.
-drink 2L of water a day
-as above but to help, drink a whole glass before your meal and one with it
-if you if you hungry, drink water, often thirst comes off as hunger. Then ask do i feel like a apple/carrot etc if not then you are just bored.
-if you a badly craving something, have SOME, but not all the time
-give yourself some slack!
-GOOD LUCK!

-For the trolls, this is just a list of things of the top of my head of suggestions to help the OP, it's not perfect, and yes you could sit and talk all day about it, its' a huge subject, so back off

I eat fairly healthy but I don't count calories.
Example is porridge with fruit for brekky, snow peas with dip as a snack, egg salad sandwich for lunch, rice crackers and cheese as a snack, then chicken stir fry for tea as a typical day. I do drink a lot of coffee and sometimes milo. So you could pick my diet apart but its sustainable long term which calorie restricted diets arent.

I try to maintain a healthy diet but have treats too now and then!
I always have cereal for breakfast, fruit for morning tea.
Lunch varies between sandwiches or leftovers
Snacks vary in healthiness - crackers and dip, home made biscuits, cruskits/saladas and avocado, fruit. Sometimes I eat an afternoon snack, sometimes I don't (depending on lunch).
Dinner is generally meat and plenty of veges. Tonight's was spaghetti and meatballs with grated veges through the pasta sauce.

ANSWER

Yeah I would call it healthy
I don’t eat till around 12most days, I have a big salad, or make a salad wrap or salad sandwhich.
Sometimes I’ll fry up pre cut veggies with tuneric and huloumi. Or cook rice, mix with tabouli and cut a small salad. 4 crackers with a beetroot pesto thing I home make and tomato with rocket.
Oooh I love to make fresh bruschetta.

Afternoon I might have a banana or a seeet treat.
Dinner is veggies and rice or veggies and pasta, fresh fish or something.
