Would you go to Vic for a funeral?

Answered 4 years ago

My husbands great nanna is not expected to live long. Not Covid related. His family are all assuming we are coming over if there is a funeral and not taking the hint that we are not planning to. Even if we were to get an exemption (from SA) we can’t take two weeks off (both self employed) to quarantine when we return. Would you go? Should we go?

Thank you, I had a moment of ‘maybe we are being un reasonable’ but I firmly think it’s just not possible. Of course we would go if we could but there’s just too much in the way, I don’t even know if we would get an exemption to cross the border. Hang in there melbournians, we are thinking of you all and how sucky this all is.

No. And even if you got there, would you even be able to attend due to number restrictions?

Probably now all of us (three kids) but I think they just want us there. Which I can understand, it would be nice to be all together, but there’s just too many obstacles to even try and get there.

No way. Ask them to live stream it. It costs more though.

I stopped giving hints ages ago & would tell family straight up 'I'm not coming'. I give a concrete reason - we can't afford two weeks of quarantine after we get back / can't get time off / can't get an exemption.

Send flowers and a nice card.

No. I would get them to set up like a zoom meeting thing. So you can watch the service without being there. It's an absolute shit show down here in Melbourne haha

No. Some places now are set up to stream the service, so you can watch it without attending.
