Is injury a sign of adhd?

Answered 4 years ago

My friend said my kids probably have add or adhd because unfortunately they have both broken bones in the last year at school. On top of that one had a concussion falling off a playground and they always seem to have bruises or scrapes from bikes scooters ect - they are the sporty type and play outdoors maybe more then the average kid. I was shocked she said that I was hoping someone here has had that diagnosis and can shed some light on if that’s actually what drs think too ect

It can be because a child with ADHD loses focus quickly. They might be climbing, get distracted and fall. Or start doing something then go off in another direction and slip over. I know someone who's child was diagnosed with ADHD and her accidents were one of the reasons they looked into it. There other reasons though, not just that she seemed accident prone. Some kids are just accident prone though

I understand her thoughts.. you have written it differently. Plain and simple, she is saying your kid is getting hurt much more often than other kids...,because ....has issues. I’d say fact. Doesn’t look after himself/herself properly. Ask yourself why??? Take better care of that kid pls, of get a diagnosis. Not meaning to sound harsh, but take it from an experience mum

How would she know they are getting hurt more often than other kids? Does she study all of them? They are kids, they are going to have scrapes and bruises.

If the teachers at school think something is up, then possibility as they see heaps of kids. About 10-12 years ago, i had a friend who kept telling me to get my kid assessed for autism because MY CHILD HATED KINDERMUSIK AND WOULD NOT SIT STILL IN THE CLASS like her precious little one.
I only sent my child because my friend kept insisting, but after a semester we left because kindermusik was just not fast paced and entertaining enough for my child I'm afraid.
No autism, but ironically my now teenager has taught themself how to play electric guitar 😂

Sooooo.... My child has adhd, and never had broken bones until highschool.
And that was because of a fight.
So not sure what she's on about.

Maybe the other way around, kids with adhd might be prone to accidentally injuring themselves more often but in no way would that ever mean an accident prone child has adhd.

I don't think she's a very nice (or clever) friend.
Your children are fine.

No way this is ludicrous and has no bearing on diagnosing add or adhd.

What an odd thing for her to say! Kids can be rough and tumble, outdoorsy, risky play loving kids- it does not equal add or adhd (I’m an early childhood teacher). Being accident prone can be one of the many symptoms....Unless your kids are showing other symptoms, I wouldn’t be concerned. Have their teachers ever mentioned any trouble with attention or following directions etc? Are they particularly anxious? If you do have concerns you can get a referral to a pediatrician- hope this helps!
