Thyroxine

Answered 4 years ago

Anyone here taking or taken it?
Did it help?
If it did how immediate were the symptom reductions?
Did your energy come back fast?
Did weight come off quickly?

I have been taking it for about 10 years. The only symptom I had was tiredness but it wasn’t picked up until routine pregnancy bloods. I was carrying extra weight and the thyroxine made it easier to lose it but really, the weight gain was due to my diet and not my hypothyroidism.

To know if your dose if therapeutic or it you will
Need regular blood tests. I have mine yearly when I get a repeat script and bloods to check thyroid function at normal level, which they have been for many years.

They said they will test every 6 months.
I actually tested positive 8 weeks again and my ultrasound showed thyroid issues.
But on my re test to make sure I was good.
The male doctor I was seeing was dismissive and just said I need to eat better and work out more now I’m in my 30s.
Randomly was seeing the woman there today for my daughter, and she wanted to discus results, when I explained iv our on 15kg in 2 years and I’m always tired, losing hair, skin so dry I have tiny scabs all over me, mood swings iv never had before and sweating more easily, and can not handle heat anymore. Summer just kills me.

She suggested we try it given my symptoms on a low dose and she will test for celiacs disease too

You will find thyroxine alone won’t shift the weight. Once you start trying to lose it, with your thyroid under control it will be easier. And with a proper functioning thyroid, all your other symptoms should disappear.

I initially had 3 monthly thyroid checks but with it now under control yearly is all that is needed.

With the weight though, my diet is actually a pretty good diet. I could cut out my weekly wine and 2/3 milky bars a week.
And that’s pretty much the only room for cutting food.
I’m very active and still very fit. But it’s just so easy to put on weight. My 2 kilos over Christmas still on, my camping holiday, I gained another 2. The minute I don’t eat well I pile on weight and that becomes my new baseline.
I clock about 16000-22000 steps a day even with my fatigue.
It’s been really hard losing control of my weight over the last few years because iv always been size 6 with a 6 pack
In 8 years iv put on 23kgs.
I just want to not feel tired anymore and be able to control my weight gain before I get bigger
