Were you given or did your win a big chunk of money?

Just curious as I've recently been given 350,000 from my parents for a house. Now it seems most I know who own a house have been given money starting from 20k onwards a friend of mine just told me she won 68k at the casino a few months back.

What's the biggest chick of free cash you've gotten?

I have not but I occasionally consider offing my mother in law or my dad change that fact (haha) 😉

Tribal members where I live get 30k when they turn 18 provided they graduate or complete their high school equivalency. Everyone of them blows it and then messes up their college plans or puts it off and ends up not going. I'm almost glady kids don't qualify.

 Where do you live?

Nope. never. never will. We're on our own, working hard :)

I won 200k in lotto when I was 19. Ten years on I still drive the car I bought with that money (a 10 year old car) and sold the house I bought at a loss unfortunately :( took a two years off work raising my kid and split with hubby
and it was gone. Just reached my goal of 20k in the bank after working shift work and overtime for a year and living with my parents going to buy a modest 'forever' house for me and my girl. Hard work wins every time if I win it now I'd do things differently leave it in the bank and act like it's not there until we need it, get the interest rather then the assets

Just curious - when you win tattslotto how long before you actually get the money?

4 weeks for money over 5k

24 days or less for Division 1 and 8 days or less for division 2. Usually the next day for all other divisions. My Grandmother got 12 million dollars paid out to her 2 weeks after winning division 1. She had a verified members card.

Is it taxed? And do you get it all at once?

Hubby and I were unable to save for a deposit after an interstate move that left us financially screwed but we could pay off a mortgage so when we moved home my parents used the equity in their home and bought ours. We pay all bills and once we have a deposit we will put our names on the loan for the loan amount. So it's not coming into money but that's how my parents helped us get ahead and if possible I will do the same for my kids

Can I ask, for anyone that has recieved a large chunk of money, has your life actually improved? Are you happier?

Op here it was only 350k but completely changed my life. I was able to start my own business that runs from home. It earns me $80 an hour I work school hours only and my mortgage is only 150k so I pay about $200 a week for mortgage and I'll own my house before I'm 40 most likely.
I holiday 3-4 months a year and have all the time and money I need to spend with my kids

What kind of work do you do from home?

I was always a happy person but now I have nothing to stress about if we are all in good health being free financially if done the right way (without greed) freed us from the only arguments we ever had (money)
It doesn't make the world go round but when you have the freedom to live exactly the life you want being happy is a whole lot easier

We have no stress being debt free. Our marriage was good before hand. It's grown stronger since.

Just curious if your parents or I laws gave you money for a house do you have to pay it back?

No but it was given as an interest free loan where if we sell the house it must be paid back. This prevents the money ever going to a spouse in the event of a divorce. Then they would just re gift it to us. After the divorce. It's a very common way people gift the money of that size.

I got $100,000 from my mother in law its what we would get when she passes but we got ours early, his sibling will get theirs later. They are better off then us and already have a house and everything else and use is like a savings, where we are using ours to buy a house.

My elderly grandmother won first division tattslotto and gave me and my husband the majority......(nearly 10 million dollars) 2 years ago.

Op here funny enough my grandparents who were already extremely wealthy won 800k in lottery and my uncle won 2.3 millions and another auntie won 300k
Seems luck runs in people I know 😊

Wow! If it's not to personal I'd love to know what one does when they suddenly get such a huge amount of money?

Well my grandparents were 60 and as I said already very wealthy not sure what they did.
uncle owned a successful company and they bought a holiday house- gave their kids house deposits (large ones) and kept working but every year they take a month of and go over seas they just keep the money in an account that's used for holidays. Oh he bought a boat and holiday house too. Already owned their house so didn't have to pay off a mortgage
I think my auntie went on a big holiday and paid her mortgage off

We already had a nice (old) house, so we have renovated most of that. I've continued to work 4 days a week as a RN and my husband has continued to work and build his business (tradie). We holiday, but not extravagantly (my husband is from OS so we always had travelled OS every 12-18 months anyway). We mostly camp throughout the year on long weekends so we bought a second hand camper trailer. We have updated our family car, but it is not a "luxury" model. Our kids still attend public primary school. We have not told family and friends as we looked into and read up about stories of people who had sudden windfalls and lost friendships over money. We do daily acts of kindness.........buy the person behind us coffee, their petrol, donate to various groups constantly, tip very generously etc. It has certainly taken the stress of worrying about our future away and surprisingly our marriage has grown stronger.
