Thanks for asking the question - it's one we have asked ourselves many times. For 10 years we have provided all our content for free (that's over 10,000 articles plus everything else on our website, including forums) and supplemented that with advertising. We now feel that with the changes in digital marketing, that we would like to provide an option for our readers to become more of a part of our community. We are providing membership (and currently until early May, a Louis Vuitton giveaway) to those who feel they would like more value from us in addition to the free stuff we already provide. This membership site is in its infancy and we are working on ways to grow it and hope that our community will help us with that too (we'll be asking!) - it is totally optional, nobody HAS to join it for our content. We will always provide the free website and content (like recipes etc) as before, but our premium content (such as our business articles and the like) will be membership based in the near future. Especially since the whole Facebook/Google debacle we felt we needed to adapt with the ever changing landscape of the digital world to keep up with the times and to keep going for years to come.
Thanks for your question, and I hope we have provided some answers. We hope to see some of you join our membership site!

Is this real, or theoretical? Ive heard nothing (but don't engage much here these days).

But it's a meh, no thanks from me. There's no value in it for me to justify paying. I get businesses need to survive but so do I & I can get the same stuff elsewhere for free. It's happened on other sites & I just move on.
