I mean, they’re classic, chic, elegant, sophisticated, and they never go out of style — that’s just like putting something on and wearing it forever, right?

We all know how styles in clothing, makeup and hair come and go, but they’re never actually gone. They keep coming back every now and then, with some people putting a modern twist to it.

So, if you’re going to some occasion that’s vintage-inspired, you can complete your look with these retro hairstyles made famous by Hollywood celebrities in the olden days.

  • Dip rollers in setting solution to hold the curls.
  • Start curling at the front fringe of your hair.
  • Roll backwards and up away from your face.
  • Then, curl another side of your hair by roll it up and away from your face.
  • On the opposite side, get some hair at the top and on the side and together, roll it up and away from your face.
  • Then, go back to the other side and get a part of your hair and start rolling from the bottom and in towards the face.
  • Stop rolling just below your ear. Repeat on the other side.
  • Part your hair in the middle horizontally and clip the upper part.
  • Divide the hair into two so that you have two sides to curl. Start with either the left or right side and curl in towards the face.
  • Stop below the ear where you stopped rolling your other curls so the levels of your curls are the same.
  • Do the same for the rest of the hair.
  • Put a hair net to keep your rollers in place.
  • Leave it for as long as you want or you can leave it overnight.
  • Take out the rollers.
  • Shake it off and break those curls through your fingers then brush it down.
  • Then comb it.
  • To add a little height at the middle section, tease the hair using a comb.
  • Add a pomade then comb through…and more brushing too.
  • When you’re set, spray on to hold the curls.

  • Separate your hair and tease it at the back of your head.
  • Then tease the parts on the sides (except the front).
  • Brush to smoothen. Be careful to maintain the volume, then fix with hairspray.
  • Separate the hair and start curling at the front using a 1″ curling iron.
  • Curl the hair away from the face, concentrating at the ends because that’s where the curl is.
  • Then fix the curls with clips, and put on some hairspray.
  • Leave the curls for about half an hour or longer, making sure your hair has cooled down.
  • Take out all the clips and separate the curls by gently running your fingers through your hair.
  • You can comb if you like as long as you keep the curls at the ends intact.
  • Then, use a bobby pin to secure the front section.

  • Curl your hair towards your face using 2″ curling iron.
  • Apply some dry shampoo to mattify the hair.
  • Then put some volumising powder by sprinkling it on the roots at the top back of your head and rub it in.
  • Place four fingers at the top of your head and clip away all the hair under your hand.
  • Tease the crown using a thin comb (about two inches at the middle and three inches at the back.)
  • Get a small section at the middle that you want to tease and pack the hair down at the back and front to create a bigger poof.
  • Put some hairspray in each section you tease.
  • Smoothen it out by using a boar bristle brush. Be careful not to smoothen out the volume you created.
  • You can add hair extensions if you want for more volume.
  • Attach a hair padding or sock at the back of your head.
  • Gather all the hair at the front and the sides over the hair padding.
  • Tie it with elastic and push the hair up by adding more bobby pins to add more volume.
  • Lightly tease your bangs then add some hairspray.

  • Apply mousse all over the hair.
  • Part the front of your hair to the side and curl all your hair using rollers or curling iron.
  • Separate a large front section of your hair and part right behind your ear.
  • Tease the base the middle of the hair and add some hairspray.
  • Roll the hair carefully starting at the very end and try to make a circle.

  • Tie the lower part of your hair and curl it with a curling iron.
  • Curl the top half of your hair using a 13cm wand.
  • Make sure you curl your hair the same way so it would look exactly the same.
  • Take the front part of your hair at the centre and curl it towards your face.
  • Pin the curl in place.
  • Repeat for the entire row.
  • Then, curl the other side of your hair and this time, curl it away from your face.
  • Repeat for the entire row and on the other side.
  • Let the curls cool.

  • Do the same for the other side so it looks like a chignon.
  • Use a stronghold hairspray to keep everything in place.
  • Then, carefully take the clips out of your hair.
