A Photographer Documents What Beauty Looks Like Around The World

It might be safe to say that beauty is dependent on the number of likes, favourites and retweets in social media(if this the case, I’m one fat loser!).

Don’t forget about that preposterous plastic surgery and a dash of make up to look like Kendall Jenner. Hit me! Even the magic mirror on the wall could hardly tell who’s the fairest of them all.

Call me a smooth talker but I do believe everyone is a beautiful creation without the fuss of plastic surgery or make up. I’m just happy to know that there’s one person who is changing the concept of beauty by venturing to a life calling along with a backpack and her camera.

In Atlas of Beauty project, Romanian photographer Mihaela Noroc shows the world that beauty is everywhere, and it’s not a matter of cosmetics, money, race or social status, but more about being yourself.

“In my opinion, beauty means to keep alive your origins and your culture.  To be natural, sincere, authentic, particular, not necessary fashion,”

Mihaela has already set foot to 60 countries, from the bright city lights of the metropolitan to the secluded  remote areas of the middle east and everywhere in between to prove that beauty is an ideal shared by all. She ventures to search for images of beauty in different nations and cultures. Her portraits inspire everyone to be more aware about other cultures and appreciating various forms of beauty can encourage us to be more tolerant.

She makes even the busiest streets her quintessential setting to capture 30 seconds to an hour on each portrait. Mihaela deliberately chooses women of a similar age bracket.

The comparison has to be made using similar conditions. …I think beauty is not about age. It’s more about being natural and sincere,” she said.

Her vision is to make this project a witness to how cultures and traditions have changed as each generation unfolds. She makes it her goal to continue for many years and to study beauty in all countries of the globe, if possible, making this Atlas a project known around the world and an inspiration for all women that try to be themselves.

“Through my photography I want to capture that feeling of warmth and serenity which is so specific to women and comes to balance all the negativity we see in the media,” Mihaela said. Girl power represent!

Let’s face it, every country has its own struggles and with these beauty portraits, we have every reason to find the good in every situation. Let’s discover together life’s wonderful contrast of beauty around the world through the lens of Mihaela Noroc.
