Beauty on a Budget: How to Look Your Best When You are Tired as Hell

When you become a mum for the first time, beauty often goes right out the window. Whether the problem is time or money (or both!), it’s just not something we all keep up with. Fortunately, there are some cheap and easy ways to keep yourself looking smashing on a budget.

Here are the top 10 beauty tips for mums on a budget.

1. Drink Enough Water

Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated while at the same time flushing away toxins. Water is a clean, pure, and healthy way to keep your skin looking fresh and young. Plus drinking enough water keeps dehydration headaches at bay, and makes your breath fresher!

2.  Moisturize With Honey

Pure, regular ol’ honey is one of the best natural moisturizers around. Honey acts as a humectant, which means that it attracts and retains moisture. You can use it on your hair as a conditioner or directly on your skin as a sweet facial mask.

3.  Eat Healthy

The saying goes, “You are what you eat,” and it’s actually much truer than you might realize. Your skin is your largest organ, and much of the food you put into your body makes a direct impact on the health of your skin. Stick to fresh fruits and vegetables for soft, glowing skin.

4.  Get Enough Sleep

Bahhahhahaaa…..  Oh sorry, where was I? Mums like us are always on the go. We’ve got the chores, the grocery shopping, picking kids up from school, making lunch and dinner it’s hard to find time to just lie in bed and have a good sleep. Sleep rejuvenates your body and restores energy levels, so get enough sleep and your eyes will sparkle all day long.  If you can find the time!

5.  Exfoliate With Bicarb

For the cheapest beauty tip out there, nothing beats bicarb. Mix a teaspoon in with some of your normal moisturizer for a complete all-purpose exfoliant.  If you are prone to ingrown hairs, make a paste of bicarb and water and apply to the area – it really helps!

6.  Avoid Too Much Alcohol

Drinking a lot may be fun, but it wreaks havoc on your face and skin. Alcohol dries out your skin, causing it to flake and wrinkle more easily. When you drink too much you’re more likely to make bad food decisions too, so keep the alcohol at a minimum.

7.  Use 15 Seconds of Cold Water in the Shower

Next time you take a hot shower, turn the knob to cold at the end for about 15 seconds. Not only will it wake you up instantly, it brings the blood vessels to the surface of your skin, providing more oxygen and promoting circulation. It’s called hydrotherapy, and beauty salons charge a fortune to do this for you.

8.  Use a Raw Sugar Body Scrub

When you’re in the shower, scrub raw brown sugar over your body to cleanse and exfoliate. Just be careful afterward because the shower will get slippery!

9.  Exercise

We all know that exercise is a great way to keep the extra kilos off, but it’s actually even better than that. Exercise is a natural stress reliever, releasing endorphins that make you feel good. The less stress you have, the longer your beauty will last through the years. Of course, you could always just…

10.  Be Happy!

Sometimes the best beauty tip is nothing more than keeping a positive outlook on life. Stress causes free radicals to form, which are directly linked to many of the outer signs of aging, such as wrinkles. Find ways to relax and find enjoyment in your life on a daily basis, and you’ll notice your skin glowing in no time!
