Semen Facials and Other Bizarre Beauty Treatments

We are in the 21st century, and new technologies mean we can look 20 at 40.

We all want to act and look the part, while at the same time defying the rigours of age by all means possible. When it comes to beauty treatments, people of all ages across the world are making news as a result of the lengths they are willing to go to look good. From the slightly off to the outright bizarre, anything out there goes.

Incredibly, a good number of the approaches to beauty treatment work and are backed by science and logic, which is why we are taking a look at a bunch of them now;

1. Semen Facials

Also known as Spermoza Facials (or ‘Man Moisturizer’), they involve you rubbing semen all over your face and allowing it to seep into the tissues. You are allowed to scrub the dry parts of semen off your face 20 minutes after application. The absorbed fluid is said to slow down the rate of skin wasting and has also been touted as a great way of absorbing the multivitamins present in semen. Semen facials are generally DIY treatments.  Remember though if you are doing to do this, that semen is a body fluid and therefore can transmit STI’s – so be safe!

Personally, I’ve always thought this was a lie and excuse for our partners to put things where they don’t belong….But hey, it’s free to try if you have some sperm lying around.

2. Vampire Facial

Also known as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), this is carried out by professionals. Here, the practitioner extracts blood from your arm, strips it of its red and white blood cells and then injects it into your facial skin. At times it is used alongside dermal fillers in a bid to reduce wrinkling and raise the skin. You are required to go through 3 different sessions of the treatment, each four weeks away from the other in order to see results. Touch ups can be done once a year.

Apparently, it is as painful as giving birth…..

3. Placenta Facial

This one is quite common around celebrity circles, with showbiz bigwigs like Kim Kardashian and Harry Styles said to be keen customers. Scientists have always known that the placenta is a highly nutritious tissue, which explains why it is regularly eaten by people around the world. However, in recent years, it seems to have found use as some sort of antiaging agent. Sources of the placenta are mostly sheep, but it has been known to also come from humans in the form of a serum.

Ick…..

4. Snail Slime Hair Treatment

For ages now, snail slime has been a perfect hair treatment for people in the Caribbean. Dominicans are in particular known for their love for this extract, and it seems to work for them. Over the years, Americans have also been slowly taking this up, which is why you see a lot of products out there with the ingredient. Snail slime may look and sound gooey, but keep in mind that it does a spectacular job of helping skin tissues regenerate.

5. Bird Poop Facial

Yeah, it is precisely what the name suggests. Londoners will call it Geisha facial while New Yorkers are less subtle, but it is all the same thing. Its origin can be traced to Japan, but it is now a mainstay in the US and UK. The first step involves collecting droppings from birds and then drying them under powerful UV light. The solid droppings re now mixed with rice bran and water and used as face masks. According to beauty experts, the result is a glowing, even-toned skin. There doesn’t seem to be a lean towards poop from specific birds-seems like droppings from any bird will do the trick.

6. Leech Therapy

Leeches are good for your skin and blood. This has been esoteric knowledge among specialists for a long time, but regular folk like ourselves might only have heard of it when Demi Moore professed to being a fan. Basically, what happens is that your beautician allows leaches to glide all over your skin, giving you little testy bites while at the same time releasing enzymes that are said to work magic on your skin and blood. So, if you are looking for a biting, why not go for it?

7. Beer Baths

With this one, you get to bath in beer-quite literally. This one has been doing the circles for a goodly number of years, but until recently, it was too expensive for the regular Joe. Now it is within the paygrade of a good number of people. In a beer bath session, you lower yourself into a tab containing hops, minerals and yeast, heated to 30 Degrees Celsius. The result is a cool, toned skin and rejuvenated tissues. This beauty treatment is now being offered in prime establishments around the world.

8. Caviar Body Treatment

Fish seem to be in the middle of everyone’s attempts to stay forever young, and this is one of the ways in which they work toward that. Eggs extracted from fish of the Acipenseridae family are smeared all over your skin in order to keep it young and glowing. One of the aficionados of this bizarre approach to beauty is the one and only Angelina Jolie, who has confessed that caviar treatments helped her avoid stretch marks during and after her pregnancies.

9. Ice Water Immersion

Cold much? Well, if you are not, then this treatment will see to it. An ice water dunk involves you taking a facial dip right into freezing water for seconds or even minutes at a time. The water will sting, but you will of course be assured of a beautiful afterglow. Kate Hudson, for one, swears by this one.

10. Red Wine Soaks

Do you love wine so much that you would rather soak in it than just guzzle it down? Well, if so, then this is the one for you. What you do here is pour a few cups of red wine into your bath water and sit back. The wine will moisturize your skin tissues and increase your rate of skin renewal. What a waste of wine, some might say! Still, it works for the likes of Teri Hatcher.

Beauty seems to be the calling card to plenty of places of late. This explains why everyone is scrambling for that Elysian glow. If you look around hard enough, you will definitely find a treatment that will straight up give you the willies.

Have you tried any of these beauty treatments? How was it?
