One Colour is the sole distributor of Kenana Knitter teddies in Australia.
“A Kenana Knitter toy makes a great gift, whether one from our popular large safari animal range or one of our newly-launched organic cotton mini monkeys, available in a range of colours” says Di Stitt.
Kenana Knitter toys are ethically produced in the Rift Valley region of Kenya, Africa, using local homespun wool or organic cotton yarn from Tanzania. The use of non-toxic and plant-based dyes means that parents can rest assured that the natural fibres will not harm babies and children, but instead are acting to create a more sustainable environmental system.
First and foremost, the products are high-quality, beautiful and attract a wide range of consumers in Australia buying for their own children or as a gift. Secondly and as a bonus, each toy represents a fantastic story with integrity.
The main driver for producing Kenana Knitters toys is to create ongoing employment for women in rural Kenya, which in turn empowers them to transform their lives and the lives of their families and communities. Kenana Knitter employs and pays fair wages for 30 full time knitters and spinners.
Through developing skills they already have, for example knitting, and supporting the women through ensuring adequate healthcare, the production of Kenana Knitter toys is making a positive difference in a country where poverty and corruption are rife.
One Colour was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Kids’ Product category as a distributor of Kenana Knitter toys, at the inaugural Green Lifestyle Awards held on the evening of Wednesday 9 October in Sydney.
